I like that you included the grade you gave each book! I am listening to The Life of Pi on audiobook right now (it takes me ages because I only have a couple of hours per week to myself where I can listen). I can’t really tell yet if it’s one I’m going to like.

Regarding the Barry/Pearson and the McCaughrean Peter Pan stories…
they ALL contradict Barrie’s original stories MAJORLY.

There’s one that doesn’t though – and it’s based on Barrie’s idea for more adventure!

      BELIEVE!

Diane: Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds really interseting…I’ll definitely check them out! Love Dave Barry!

Aizan: Actually, Colleen is the librarian and I am the stay-at-home mom but I just love to read. I guess I was pretty harsh on The Kite Runner but it just didn’t do it for me. I did give it the + which almost makes it a B book but I just thought it had some flaws and it just didn’t elevate itself into the “B” realm for me. Sometimes I give a grade and then revise it a few weeks later when I’ve had more time to think about it and I think this is what happened to me with that book. Plus, there was a lot of hype about this book so that may have influenced me too!

Goodness Jenners! You are one heck of a book critic. A C+ for The Kite Runner? I thought it was a pretty decent book. =)

But yeah, the list of books that you’ve read in 2008 are simply astounding. But then again, you are a librarian.

My mom was the librarian in the state library. Absolutely loved the perks of getting to devoure all the books that I can get my hands on. Aaaahhhh… those were the days.

Hey, I’ve been meaning to tell you about a trilogy of kids’ books (if you don’t know about them yet)… you MUST get them to read to your little guy when he’s a bit older (maybe 6 or 7, depending on how mature he is). They are ‘Peter and the Starcatchers,’ ‘Peter and the Shadow Thieves,’ and ‘Peter and the Secret of Rundoon.’ They are the prequels to the Peter Pan story (though not authorized by the Great Ormond Street Hospital, as Peter Pan in Scarlet was), written by Dave Barry and Ridley Scott. They are AMAZING books and worth reading even if you don’t have kids. I love the Peter Pan story (though not what Disney did to it) and these were every bit as worthy as the endorsed sequel in my mind!

Wow! You’re amazing! How do you do it with a 4 year old to chase after? One of my lowest reading points was when my kids were little. I didn’t have the time or energy to read.

I wish I had kept a list of what I read this year. I’m excited to do the 100 Books in 2009 challenge. It will force me to keep track. :o )
