Kid Bloggers

Would you like a glimpse into the mind of the Little One by reading some of his first post (shown at left)? I know it may be just me being his mom, but isn’t it brilliant? Doesn’t he have some wonderful suggestions for resolving the economic crisis? And his take on the recent Academy Awards was both witty and erudite. Don’t you love how he slyly referenced Orson Welle’s masterpiece Citizen Kane while discussing Beyonce’s performance? The kid is a genius, methinks!
Now I want to pay tribute to a kid blogger who really does have a blog — Brenna (the daughter of my college friend Colleen). (Note: I did check with Colleen before doing this and she said Brenna would be thrilled to have visitors and comments on her blog — so please take a moment to stop by and say “hi” if you don’t mind. You’ll make a very special young lady very happy! The link to Brenna’s blog is in red above.)
Brenna currently lives with her family in Shanghai, China and has led a very interesting and full life. Although she is only in 5th grade, she has traveled all over the world — United States, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Philippines, Thailand and China. And her family is planning on moving to Vietnam later this year! Needless to say, this kid has packed more adventures and culture into her short lifetime than most adults!
At Brenna’s blog, you’ll find information on the invention she is currently building, innovative solutions to common problems, the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, animal experimentation, her panda research project, and so much more. I wish I had a blog when I was Brenna’s age! And I feel inspired and hopeful about kids today when I visit her blog — and I’m sure you feel the same way!

I live across the hall from COll and Bren in Shanghai and you’re right – she’s FABULOUS!!!!!! And Bren is one special kid.
Super blog!

Blogging with your mother? That is amazing! You are inspiring your child to be like you (isn’t that an amazing feeling?) and you are someone special to be a role model. I love the form of the first post…it looks legit to me! Did you ask him what his first blog post was about? I would save it and write the narrative and keep it. He may be a famous writer one day all becuase his mom had a blogging addiction!
My daughter is doing that with jewelry. She is really good! I bought her a little table to play with beads in my studio. Unfortunately we have been bogged down by the flu bug in the past month, but we will get there! She has a pair of earrings for sale in town, and I plan to get her a logo and earring cards to be professional. Maybe she will even get picked up in a magazine sometime!
I will definitely go check out the blogs of Colleen and her daughter. How exciting. Can I live vicariously through them as well?
I also need to check out your book blog. I am always seeking a good read.
Enjoy the day Jenners!
Erin
Thanks for the fantastic write-up, Jenners! Thanks to everyone who checked out Brenna’s blog and especially those who wrote comments. You totally made her day! She was floored by the number of visitors. We were eating dinner with author Chris Crutcher and she said, “Mom I normally get about 8 visitors to my blog in a day, but for some reason I had 64 yesterday!” Chris’ eyes got big and I just cracked up!
I need to give credit where credit is due. Brenna’s teacher, Scott Hossack (http://teachers.saschina.org/shossack/), uses blogging as an educational tool and he’s extremely good at it. Blogging really motivates Bren and I’m sure most of the kids in her class. I wish I could go back to 5th grade!
Jenners – I didn’t know I gave you that nickname! Ha! I rarely call anyone by their full name! It was a problem in Venezuela where a lot of people had 2 first names – JoseDavid or MariaJose. Too much to say and waaaay too formal! I once asked JohnPaul if I could call him JP and he said, “NO!” Oops!
Nub nu!
Okay – that was adorable! And, lord have mercy, I’m trying to connect Beyonce’s OSCARs performance and Citizen Kane in my head. Didn’t Ryan The Temp set up a “blog” like that for Creed on The Office?
Well thank goodness to Colleen for getting you into blogging
Your son is adorable. I believe you may have prolific blogger in the works there.
Your boy is absolutely brilliant! I think it’s wonderful that Colleen and Brenna both blog! How fun!
My 7 year old nephew has his own blog now. I think it’s a great way to get them into computers that doesn’t involve video games. Not to mention writing.
I can see that your son’s blog is going to be a HUGE hit…HUGE! I’m now off to check out the little world traveling tykes blog.
My daughter has started several blogs. She does mostly glittery blinkies, and that type of thing. It is cute to look and see what she does though.
Kids amaze me every day!!!! What a cool kid and mom
Your son will have a hip following soon enough!
I’ve visited Collen’s blog before and it’s great. I’m looking forward to popping over there again in minute. How cool that her daughter has a blog. My daughter was so full of dreams and ambitions and plans when she was about that age. She was so motivated. Great age!
How cute that your son wanted a blog! I bet he’ll have lots of followers soon!
Nice to meet ya colleen! And I am loving your blogger there, girl!
Your son’s blog is better than mine on most days. Super cute!
A lovely tribute and how cute to see your son’s first blog posting. That would make a cute scrapbook page.
Loved the two blogs you featured.
Wow your son IS a genius. I see he blogged about the meaning of life as well.
Okay off to go visit Brenna’s blog- how sweet!
So cute!
Can you imagine looking back on posts from your 5th grade mind? I’ll go take a look now!
so stinking cute! my #2 girlie is into the same thing right now and she calls it “togging” bc she combines typing and blogging. seriously, where do they get this stuff???
This is a fabulous idea, I will be using this exact plan in exactly one year, when he stops banging and starts typing. Great use of the strikethough!!
That’s so sweet!! If only you can teach him to “blog” on a laptop or something while you can be on the home computer blogging as well! I call that BONDING TIME!
How cute that he wants to blog like you
Now you’ll have Lego time and blogging time together!! Brenna and Colleen are so creative! I look forward to checking out their blogs. Great tribute to kids in all their inventive, imaginative ways
he really is very advanced. brenna better watch her back.
What a great idea! I might sign my kid up so he can have his own….but then I would have to fight him for the computer…..
That’s positively adorable. And yes, I think the Little One’s ideas about the economy are spot on!
Wow, your son’s blog is brilliant!!!
I love how you opened a word doc for it. That was pretty smart thinkin’ but then what else would a mother of a genius do but something brilliant herself.
awww, your son looks so cute sitting at the computer blogging! Recently, I’ve thought about letting my kids start private blogs.
A blogging 4-year-old? Too cute. Pure genius, Mom. Have to go check out Brenna…
She sounds like a neat lady…we havent set foot on a flight with our kids in 4.5 years…we cant imagine it…we can barely hold it together at home.
Great to see you spending some time with your kids…were they incensed at having to re-introduce themselves?
Ok, Brenna is adorable! And you are too cute to make your son a “blog”
You should let him pick a background (a stationary template lol).
You go little one! Soon you’ll have a world famous blog!
Very cute! I think BG shares the same typing language
Cute Cute Cute Tribute. I’m off to check out little Brenna’s blog, and may I just say kudos to you and Colleen for bonding with your kids by sharing with them what you like to do. Makes me rethink all the times I’ve shooed my little man away when I’m blogging or working at the computer. Next time, I think I’ll let him send an email or something!
How great! I will visit your friends.
wow your son took the words right out of my mouth!
