BBAW … Be Sure to Vote and Write
by Jenners • 09/09/2009 • Book Talk • 23 Comments
As you might know, I’ve been going through a tough time with the recent passing of my dad and a good friend, so anything happy or fun is extra-special right now. One such moment was getting to hold my neighbor’s brand-new baby the other day (totally forgot how tiny newborns are!!!). Another was my son’s first day of kindergarten yesterday — he just LOVED it (though I suspect his favorite part was riding on the school bus). And yet another such moment was getting notified that this blog was shortlisted for three Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW) awards! I was so pleasantly surprised! This blog ended up getting shortlisted in three categories:
- Most Chatty
- Best Challenge Host
- Best Challenge
I’m so honored and thrilled. When I told Mr. Jenners, he said “Cool. But what challenge are you talking about?” I had to remind him about the Take A Chance Challenge and how he helped me come up with a few of the ideas when I was running out of gas and felt I had to have 10 different challenges. (For the record, he came up with Phone An Author.) Naturally, he then assumed that the challenge being shortlisted was due to his brilliance and creativity and that it would have never happened had he not gotten involved. (Typical man!) I just smiled and nodded and thought “What an ass.”
I want to thank you the award panelists for shortlisting my blog for these three awards. It truly is an honor. And again, thanks to you guys for nominating this blog in the first place.
So BBAW voting is now open. (Voting closes on September 12th so vote soon!) There are ton of categories, and you can find the links to all the shortlisted blogs in each category right here. I read somewhere they it is suggested that we link to the 5 blog posts that we submitted so here are mine.
For Most Chatty, I submitted these posts (which, in retrospect, make me seem like a Twilight groupie!):
- Oh What A Glorious Mail Day
- Week Two Game On Diet Update
- Does Twilight Deserve To Be A Bestseller?
- Thoughts On Jane Eyre
- Help! Stephenie Meyer Has Hijacked My Reading
For Best Challenge Host, I submitted these posts. (Though I haven’t been the “Hostess with the Mostest” lately due to personal reasons but I will get around to visit your posts soon! I promise.)
- Take A Chance Challenge Sign-Up and Guidelines
- My Take A Chance Challenge Books
- I Found My Public Spying Book!
- Where To Post Your Take A Chance Challenge Posts
- Take A Chance Challenge Chat
For Best Challenge, I think they just looked at the initial idea, which was posted here.
But BBAW is much more than just the awards. It is a great opportunity to get to discover other book blogs. And did you hear that My Friend Amy (the founder of BBAW) said there were more than 1,000 book blogs participating this year? Isn’t that amazing? One way to participate is to write and post the daily BBAW writing prompts. I’m planning to do as many of them as I can. Here is the link to the prompts, but I thought I’d list them here too for your convenience. I think all of them are fantastic and thought-provoking. Be sure to go to the BBAW blog and link up your post each day using Mr. Linky. (If Mr. Linky scares you, there is a wonderful tutorial on the BBAW blog.)
BBAW Prompt for Monday, September 14
The shortlists for the awards will be announced next Monday, September 7th. The first day of BBAW, Monday September 14th, we encourage you to write a post thanking and spotlighting your favorite blogs that didn’t make the shortlists.

We will post our blogger interview swaps.

Setting Goals. Write in 50 words or less…what do you like best about your blog right now and where would you like your blog to be a year from now?
So get voting and get writing! If nothing else, BBAW provides you with an easy week of posting — no need to think up post ideas on your own!

Congrats on your well-deserved short-list nominations! Woo Hoo.
Congratulations on all your nominations! You really deserve them! I have already voted.
I just voted.
Good luck!!!!
Hey sweetie! How are you doing? I'm here if you need to talk. I know you know that, but I'm just reiterating it.
Great post. I am getting ready to put up the same thing about BBAW. After that discussion on my blog about it, I think that the other activities associated with BBAW may be getting lost. I don't want that to happen. The awards are just a part of it!
I am so happy you have been shortlisted. Out of all of the challenges I have been in, you have definitely been the best at commenting on my posts and encouraging me through e-mails. You rock the challenge hosting! (So take that, Mr. Jenners.
)
Congratulations on your nominations! My oldest was the same way on his second day of kindergarten – he loved the bus (we drove him on the first day). My younger son is bummed because he doesn't get to ride a bus yet, but is looking forward to it next year.
Congratulations on being shortlisted!!! First day of kindergarten was tough on me, the kids were always excited.
Congratulations on making the short list! Sorry that things have been so hard lately. Sounds like a lot to handle. So glad that you son enjoyed kindergarten – that's a big deal.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are so deserving of all those nominations, although I personally also think you should be short listed for the most humorous
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father (I guess I have been out of touch for too long). Thoughts and prayers are going out for you and your family.
Congrats on being shortlisted. Next week is going to be busy, fun, and exciting. Good luck!

Congrats Jenners! I'm off to vote next. I'm so glad that the Little One had a good first day of kindergarten. He's a real big boy now:)
Congrats on being shortlisted in three categories. I did vote for you in most chatty. Sorry I had to vote for my own challenge, War Through the Generations!
I hope you are taking comfort in the happy things in your life. I keep sending positive thoughts your way.
There, I voted for you in each category you were in. Now I assume the cheque will be in the mail by the end of the week? After all, you ARE buying votes, right?… You're not?? well darn it, what a waste of time!
*just teasing! hope you win!*
Congratulations on your well-deserved nominations. Also please remit $50 to me so I don't clue Mr. Jenners in on the content of this post.
aack…the phoning the author book is the one I still haven't gotten. I thought I had ordered it on Amazon but I did it under my husband's account because he has free shipping on his and then I screwed it up. In my defense, it was the middle of the night.
The Take a Chance Challenge was the first challenge I joined and in my opinion, the most creative and the one that has gotten me out of my reading comfort zone the most.
I saw you were nominated several time – congratulations! And yes, I've already voted.
I hope to participate in a couple of those items listed above. (My Thursday post has been pre-scheduled for two months.) But I did do an interview swap!

Congrats on being shortlisted for so many awards! It is definitely deserved. I loved the Take a Chance Challenge!
And congrats to your kiddo on his kindergarten adventures esp. riding the bus!
Congratulations on making the shortlists! Kindergarten is an exciting time – so full of new discoveries – glad to hear it went well.
Congratulations!!
And your "what an ass" comment cracked me up!
I'm so pleased to hear that your son enjoyed kindergarten – that must be really good news for you. My little boy has just moved up to a new class at nursery he is loving it and I am enjoying more time with my youner son.
Congratulations on doing so well at BBAW! I've got my fingers crossed for you!
