Today’s writing prompt is to answer some questions about reading — but with as few words as possible. Because I’m not know for being short-winded, this is a challenge for me but I’ll do my best.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? I tend to much on carrots or celery1.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? I’ll bend down the corner of a page but I’ll never write or highlight. How can I swap them then? (One of the benefits of a Kindle is that you can highlight passages and type your own notes. Haha, Caite!)

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? Dog-ears. (I’m assuming that is bending down the corner of a page, right? Cuz that is what I do.)

    Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? Both!

Hard copy or audiobooks? I can only listen to audio books when driving — ALONE — in my car or exercising. And since I barely exercise since the end of the Game On Diet, I’m going with Hard Copy.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? End of chapters — unless there is an “emergency” (as defined by my persistent and very vocal son) that forces me to stop earlier.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? No — I’m totally lazy like that.

What are you currently reading? Creating A Charmed Life by Victoria Moran

What is the last book you bought? Where The Mountain Casts Its Shadow: The Dark Side of Extreme Adventure by Maria Coffey

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? One book at a time, baby!

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read? Any time I can squeeze it in. I’m not picky.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? No real preference … but I prefer series authors who know when to quit. (I’m talking to you Patricia Cornwell!).

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? I think everyone would love Bill Bryson, and I’m always telling people to try The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) Only I understand how they are organized, and I’m not telling.

1 My answer above was a total lie. Sucking on a Dove Dark Chocolate Promise is more my snack of choice. But ever since The Chocolate Dripping Incident of 2008, I tend not to snack when I read.

Tomorrow’s prompt: Blog about a book you read only because you discovered it on another book blog.

When I read the carrots and celery, I was thinking, boy I need more discipline. Chocolate is more like it. LOL

Dog ears? You are so not borrowing any of my books! I finally have my husband trained not to do that after years and years of screaming "LIBRARY CRIMINAL!!!" at him! (But we're still working on the DO NOT USE BOOK AS COASTER problem.)

Loved the joke about carrots and celery! ha ha! Yeah, me too! ha ha!

heh, carrots and celery…covered with chocolate, I bet! ;)

eek! I don't even like dogged eared books. I go crazy when I get a used book or one from the library that has stuff written in it. I could never understand why people do that. I couldn't even highlight in my college textbooks!

PROMISES® SILKY SMOOTH MILK CHOCOLATE – CARAMEL!!!

Glad that you clarified that whole carrot and celery thing. I didn't think that you were a reading rabbit:) I used to dog ear my books, but now I like to put a picture of one of my kids as a bookmark. At night, it gives me a moment to think about them before I shut the light for the night. I wish I could get to the end of a chapter at night. I'm snoozing way too early these days.

Yep, your kiddo sounds like me and doesn't let me get to the end of the chapter.

I totally dog ear my books. And, I would never munch on carrots and celery while reading. Ever. I never eat while reading……because then I wouldn't be reading……I'd be concentrating on stuffing my mouth. :)

I didn't believe carrots and celery for a second – lol! I can only listen to audios when I'm alone in the car, too.

I tell my husband the same thing – that I have a super secret organizational method that only I can understand. He hasn't bought into it yet.

      Love your organization answer!

And dang! I'm the only one who answered with an unhealthy snack…

I love Bill Bryson. I have recommended him to non-readers and they seem to do well with him.

I need to know about this chocolate dripping incident. I love chocolate but cannot eat it so instead, I love to listen to people talk about it. Sad, huh?

Great post Jenners. I've given you an award so stop by when you get a chance.

      Have a good week!

      I need a Kindle!
Great answer, but that is way you snack on non-dripping things while reading :)

Chocolate is way better than carrot and celery sticks! lol

That was hilarious! Eh, and hearing about the Kindle has made me want one…I keep going back and forth. I did my quick list in pictures.

You know, I wrote today about how much of a problem I have with writing in books, but I never thought about the note/highlighting section in the Kindle the same way. I don't mind making those notes, I suppose because they aren't permanant and I don't have to see them when I read.

Dove Dark Chocolates are so yummy…

Ok, I almost stopped reading after that carrot answer…so glad to know you were lying…lol

…and you know that I totally share you issue with Ms. Cornwell. Someone needs to have a word with her.

Man, if you were serious about the carrots and celery I was going to have to think about dropping you as a blog friend. =) Loved this – lots of fun.

Thanks for that and for admitting that you turned down the corner pages of your books – I've read quite a few of these 'reveals' today and, so far, you are the only one to say you do.

Also interesting to note that I haven't yet come across anyone who said they read more than one book at a time (I know I don't)- what happened to all us multi-tasking women or doesn't that apply to the reading of books? I wonder.

Oh! Don't EVEN get me started on Patricia Cornwell! She needs to go back to her day job (night job?) for awhile and take a breather. I've only started following you, but can only imagine a chocolate dripping incident. I've had incidents with chicken wings, if you can only imagine that.

Haha! I had the same "end of chapters" answer. I don't think moms are allowed to do anything through from beginning to end.

Great answers and btw, we are totally meeting in person next year. Just saying.

Ha! I totally knew you were lying! I mean look at your profile picture. :) No really, I just remember you talking about how much you like chocolate. Mmmmm… me too. Bet you can't guess what I'm about to eat! (If you can't then you should check out my Wednesday post for a peak, because that's what I'm having tonight too.)
