Conversations Between Bob and Erma

I was going to skip Writer’s Workshop this week because I got busy (watching TV), but then I felt a bit guilty: “Writers write. They write even when they don’t feel like it.” (Don’t you love that I’m viewing myself as a writer now? Yeah…me and John Updike—writers!) Anyway, I’m writing this in 10 minutes or less, on the spur of the moment without even thinking about it. (Usually I’ll check the prompts and let an idea percolate before I write my post.) So, enough with the caveats, let’s see what these two have to say. (The prompt I chose was to write a conversation between a couple in one of three cartoons.)
Inexplicably, the man “told” me his name is Bob and the woman “told” me her name is Erma. (Great, now I’m hearing voices in my head!)
Bob: What the hell, Erma! Why are you walking on the new grass I planted?
Erma: Jeez, Bob. Calm down. I’m wearing my new aerating shoes. The spikes on the heels are good for the grass.
Bob: Not tender new grass that I just planted and am nurturing!
Erma: Nurturing? You’re nurturing the grass, Bob? Sounds a little girly to me.
Bob: Whatever. Just get your aerating shoes off my new grass!
Erma: All right, all right. Calm down. I just came out to tell you I’m going to the store and I wanted to see if you needed anything.
Bob: What store are you going to?
Erma: Target.
Bob: Well, I could use some new socks.
Erma: OK. Bye.
Bob: Bye.
OK—it is done. You can wake up now! Well, what have we learned from this little writing exercise?
- Bob and Erma are a bit boring.
- I need to work on my dialogue writing skills.
- Writers may write, but they shouldn’t always share what they come up with.
So don’t worry, I suspect Bob and Erma will not be making regular appearances on my blog! Whew!

You never fail to crack me up. Socks. SOCKS.
So, like, this might not be the most STIMULATING conversation, but it's totally one I think we all can relate to, haha. (Why is it that I feel like Mike is "taking sides" with the tree in our front yard? What's with guys and landscaping, right?)
LOL! I like Erma but I think Bob could stand to loosen up a bit!
Wait I'm supposed to aerate the lawn? No wonder it looks like crap! haha
I'm dying. The "what we have learned" portion was the funniest part.
Haha! I was actually fairly amused by it. Doesn't take much…
LOL! I like it! Mine were Stan and Shirley…and if you think YOURS is bad…
Loved it….Bob and Erma need to stay.
Hey – I'M laughing!!! You entertained ME!
Happy Thursday!
HA! I love it! And Charlene pointed out what I was going to point out – that Bob is walking on the tender grass himself! Granted, he's not wearing special aerating shoes, but still…
you make me laugh. you have more ball than I. I wanted to do this prompt but I couldn't come up with anything good so I chicken out.
But it makes you feel soooo good to have done t!
I think Mama Kat just needs to give us more risqué pictures for the conversation. Maybe a toddler napping?
You may return to your TV now. (Good to see you getting back into the swing of things after the summer hiatus.)
I agree with Erma. Bob IS a little girly.
(p.s. sorry for the deleted comment above, I posted twice)
and you thought the conversation I posted on my blog was silly! At least mine really happened.
Funny conversation, but I'd like to point out to Bob (as I would point out to my husband if this was our conversation) but he too is walking on his tender new grass…why is ok for him but not for Erma? And he's not even wearing aweating spiked heels that are good for the grass!
Lol! I almost wrote something for that one too, but I had a writers block.
I wish my husband nurtured our lawn, then maybe it wouldn't have died this year.
Funny… actually, I thought this conversation was very realistic!
Great post. It reminded me that we actually have to aerate the lawn now. Hubster always wants to buy seed too. Everything always costs a bloddy fortune. Have a wonderful day and take care.
lmao.. i like the last part
lol.. i did the same one.
ww stop by
supah
Sounds like a conversation between my hubby and I as he is very obsessed with his grass. Girly….I know. I tell him all of the time.
I also waited until after midnight to write my post today, and picked one of the pictures…but mine channeled my negative energy.
