Game 9: Your Assignment Is To…Make It Up

The other day, I was browsing on one of my favorite book blogs, Fizzy Thoughts, and saw a book review for a book called Making It Up by Penelope Lively. As soon as I read about the premise of the book, I knew it was going to be the next Fun and Games with Jenners assignment!
Basically, the book is a collection of stories in which Lively imagines what might have happened if a different choice had been made at a key moment in her life. It kind of reminded me of that Gwyneth Paltrow movie, Sliding Doors, which shows two different stories depending on whether she caught a train or not.
So here is your assignment for this game:
Write a short story based on a moment in your life that imagines what would have happened if you had made a different choice at that moment. For example, what if you hadn’t taken that job? What if you hadn’t said “yes” to the marriage proposal? If you can, share a little about the moment that inspired you to write the story.
Challenging but kind of fun, don’t you think? The moment can be as mundane or as complex as you want. I’ll have Mr. Linky up on Friday, October 16th and you can have all weekend to link up your stories. I’m excited for this one, and I hope you’ll consider playing along. Have fun!
