• Why The Little One Might Be On Project Runway Someday

The Little One is 5 years old.
    He is all boy.
    He likes trucks, dinosaurs, Transformers.
He refuses anything that is pink or girly.
    He does karate and soccer.
He makes goo-goo eyes over a little girl at his school.
He thinks police cars and fire trucks are cool.
He wants to be a scientist when he grows up.

    However…

I’m pretty sure he will be on Project Runway someday.
    As a contestant.
    A fashion designer.
And, let’s be honest, there aren’t a lot of “manly” male fashion designers.
To be honest, most of them are gay.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    How do I know this?

Because the other day, we stopped at Jo-Ann Fabrics to get thread.
And the Little One was completely enthralled with the fabrics.
    And the thread.
    And the buttons.

He begged to go back to the store today.
    To look at fabrics.
    And thread.
    And buttons.

And he told all his little friends at school about how awesome the fabric store was.
And how he couldn’t wait to go back.

Perhaps he’ll design me a custom ball gown someday.
If he is able to “make it work.”

Just think if he ends up being a famous designer, he can take care of you in the manner to which you could easily become accustomed to… :)

You know, I think, that I have an entire room dedicated to storing fabric?

Just think of all the fabulous clothes you could get…

My own 100% boy has recently started asking for a pink bike. I'm sure I shouldn't find this funny, but I do.

Love it! Are you sure he wasn't just eyeing those rolls as a cool play structure? :)

Hilarious!! The little one and I would get along wonderfully. I love fabric stores, too.

I think you should encourage this. You can never have too much fabric. I love Joanns!

My younger son had a "thing" for high heels for a while there… he would wear them all around the house… he's 15 now and TOTALLY into girls… not that it would bother me either way, of course…

      :)

That's awesome! See, Mike has WAY more fashion sense than I do, which I thoroughly appreciate, but it'd be even COOLER if he knew how to sew too, haha. I'd say your little guy is well on his way to becoming quite the heart breaker!

Joann fabrics is a great store! I don't blame him one bit for loving it there. He may just be a trendsetter!

My brother used to beg to wear barettes and nail polish. I think it is being around 2 much older sisters. He is definitely into the ladies. He, too, started flirting at a young age. At least you'll be the best dressed mom on the block!

Actually, that is quite cool. You never know… he might be the lone ranger of the straight world on the show. I LOVE Project Runway… as soon as they have Project Jewelry Designer, I am so there!
Those people are really so very talented and able to deal with so many crazy demands. All good skills to have. I say, go with the textiles Little One! Be creative every day! And a mother can never have too many ball gowns…. enjoy the day! Erin

YOu better teach that boy to sew! Some of the best seamstresses are men!

Encourage him! Do you know how much money Yves St. Laurent made in his life (gay or not!)?

Who DOESN'T love the fabric store?!?!

      Well, maybe grown men …

That is soooo cute. It is always fascinating to see what will capture a child. Love it! Tell him to be fierce.

My son loves glitter and pink and dresses… Maybe they'll meet on Project Runway? ;-)

We don't get TV so I've never seen the show. Sounds interesting, though. I love making clothes.
I am, however, an expert when it comes to fabric store visits. It's people like me that would ruin Joanne's if they had a rewards program. I have a serious fabric addiction problem.

T Rex sees the sign to the store and starts crying before we walk in. He knows it is usually a lengthy, involved visit with shopping and standing and cutting and waiting. He does not do well with this. Everyone at our local store has just gotten used to our well-known, noisy presence. Maybe your Little One can teach him a thing or two!

My oldest loves to touch all the fabric when we go into Joanns, and he oohhhs and aaahhhs at all the prints….look mommy look! haha

That is pretty funny! My son has yet to show any interest in girls and until very recently his favorite color has been pink. But I think he will man up soon enough :)

My son learned about how cloth is made in Kindergarten. He gave me a short piece of green thread one day (maybe about a foot long), and asked me to make him a shirt.

And this year in school, they tried their hand at knitting.

      Hi Jenners,
This is an adorable post! It's delightful to read that you can stay at home while raising your son. I've cherished those times and am glad I was able to work from my home around my kids' schedules. I'm here from a photography blog, I think, but I love to read, write, and connect with others. Enjoyed your post a lot.

Love Tim Gunn's "make it work" line. I use it a lot at home when the kids are trying to get their homework done. So cute that Little One loves the fabric store:)

Your boy can design the clothes and mine can model them. ;)

And now when I am buying his designer clothes when I am 80 I can say I knew him when he was a wee little one.

Keep remembering this when he's moving through the teenage years. The future possibilities should carry you through!

Soooooooooo cool. My husband has way better fashion sense than me……and an eye for color and texture. I'm pretty sure he's not gay…….:)
