• Oops….This Wasn’t Quite What I Had In Mind

So I got my hair cut today.
    I told them I wanted it “close-cropped.”
I was envisioning something like Judi Dench.

What I got was more along the lines of cancer patient
    or recent Marine enrollee.
Mr. Jenners literally backed away in horror when he saw me.
    Holy Crap!
This is not quite what I imagined.
My transformation to a boy is almost complete.
And don’t try to make me feel better by saying
    “It doesn’t look that bad.”
This photo actually makes it look better than it does in real life.
    If you can imagine that.
And what is really annoying is that you can see the gray!!!!
Mr. Jenners suggested dyeing it to
draw attention away from how short it is.

Perhaps there is an opening in Vegas for
    a Sinead O’Connor impersonator.
Or I can be an extra in the next G.I. Jane movie.
    One good thing is that
I don’t have to worry about bed head any more.
Excuse me while I lock myself in the bathroom and cry now.

okay, i’m sorry. i am dying laughing from your commentary on this post! i feel awful to laugh but you’re so funny about this whole thing. i freak out when my stylist tricks me into cutting more than an inch off my mid-back length hair. :)

listen, your hair is probably much longer already, as this post was written almost a year ago–how did i miss this gem!?!?! thanks for linking to it.

It is longer by now (but not much longer). I’ve learned to ask for a “pixie” cut … not “close-cropped.” : )

Oh sweet Jesus, I really hope you went back and complained to the place that gave you that 'do…bless your heart you're brave to share that with the blogosphere. I hope it grows in quickly for you!

Well – there's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said 50 times… but keep smiling lady. Give it a couple weeks and you'll be rocking it, for sure. And I'm on the highlights train, I think. Funk it up a little, you can definitely pull it off.

      I LOVE YOU :)

And you're NO WHERE close to being a boy.

If anyone can pull off this haircut it's you!!!
      It's probably already growing back!
      Keep smiling!!
      Miss ya!

Spike it, baby! You can RAWK that look! :)

What is it with hairdressers anymore? I have been in PA for 12 years and still have NOT found a competent person to cut my hair. And I really need it cut/styled – not butchered like what's happened every time I go. I've run out of places locally to go!

I got my haircut Thursday and my girl always does a great job but she decided to do something different and before I knew it I had bangs. I hate bangs! They are all dangling on my forehead and won't tuck behind my ears. Just not what I like. Thank goodness they can mostly be swept under my other hair.

But the bangs will grow out and so will your haircut! And in the meantime, rock it like I know you can, girl!

I don't think it looks bad! Invest in some hair gel and spike it out. I'm growing my hair out and it's driving me crazy… I hate the way it feels on my back. Your hair looks freeing!

Also, it could always be a mullet- and that is always worse.

When hair gets cut that short, it grows faster. And your lucky that you look good in short hair cuts.

When I've gotten my hair cut short- my head just looked big. I know it did because when I would comment about it to friends and family, they never said anything to contradict my comment.

I love the way you look at life and how you can make me laugh. There are worse things I guess. I once got a super bad haircut the day before a big easter brunch. I mean it was bad. Like a mullet but football helmet-ish on top. I was 25 and just had my first child. It was horrible. I called the salon sobbing. Another girl was able to do a little something extra with it but it was horrible for about 2 months. They did refund my money though.
Good luck. Some gel and spikes would look good.

Oh my goodness! I have so been there. My hair was actually shorter than my dh's hair at one point! In a day or two or seven it won't seem so bad! And just think! You don't have to spend any time on it now! Bonus! More time for other things!

Maybe bleach it blonde? Go wild!

It will grow out. By summer you can have long locks!

And you should definately ask for a refund!

      02/19/2010 at 2:19 am

ITA with the big earrings comment. At least big hoops if you don't want to be too splashy.

      02/19/2010 at 2:18 am

I think its CUTE! Honestly I do. I like short hair.
As far as dyeing it goes – if you want to use a semi-permanent so it fades out instead of growing out, less noticable.
Seriously, I do like it a lot.

I really enjoyed how everyone is giving you this advice like…"big earrings" and "more eye makeup"…Have they not met you? I do like the advice of dyeing it and rolling with it. I kind of like it. On you, of course, not me. :) I am so sorry. Are you okay, though? Besides being a boy and everything? And what is everyone talking about big boobs? Did I miss that post somewhere? Thanks for the chuckle this morning, my friend. Oh, my favorite is the link to the hats with hair. Did you pick yours out, yet?

LMAO Your transformation into a boy is almost complete OMG ROFL that is cracking me up!

      02/18/2010 at 6:58 am

oh no! I had a bad hair cut once, and I have refused to cut my hair since! (at least not any shorter than my shoulders)

I hope your hair grows fast and that you'll get it the way you want it in no time. But, I think, knowing you, you'll make it work, as other comments above suggest. I can't imagine that you won't make the best of the situation because that's the Jenners way! :)

I love the advice everyone is giving a la color it funky, style it funky, and rock it out. If you slick it into a mohawk and dye the tip blue you would totally look like quite a few of my female students…

    28. Grace's Mom
      02/18/2010 at 12:25 am

In a month or two, you'll be pretty darn close to having the cut you wanted! Then walk in to that salon, point at your head and say, "LIKE THIS!" These people do this for a living…ridiculous.

Do you know what would happen if I had an advertiser who said they wanted their commercial in the Olympics, but I decided to put it in Judge Joe Brown? I wouldn't be working here much longer. Money would be refunded. It would be ugly.

The good news is, we all know you're going to rock it, so you get a one-day-pity-party, and then time to start owning your new 'do!

    29. Dani
      02/17/2010 at 11:11 pm

I totally am on board with this – last time I cut my hair really short and it was shorter than I wanted so I didn't like it so much, but other people actually said it looked good. It was just about my own comfort level. But really! This could work with some product – just get it spiky and rock it, girl!

I hate when people f**k up the hair. I say color it green and roll with it.

    31. Michelle
      02/17/2010 at 10:36 pm

Oh no! Did you give the stylist a picture of what you wanted? Cause that is way too short for a Judy do.

It is cute, but I know from having short do's that it is a shocker when you got super short.

Where should I mail the new hat? :)

    32. Jen
      02/17/2010 at 9:48 pm

Maybe you should start some prenatal vitamins. They make your hair grow fast.

I agree with everyone's suggestions about spiking it up with color and accessories. It will grow in fast. Your winning smile just lights up your face!

Maybe spice things up for Mr. Jenners. Go GI Jane (Demi style) one night for a romantic rendezvous. He may really get into it!! :)

okay, i have gone through this same thing and am alive to tell about it. it is indeed short, but you don't look like a boy. and believe me, because i have been mistaken for a boy before, so i know what i am talking about.

i love the idea of a deep, funky red.

I think Lacey and I are the only ones who are tactless enough to admit we laughed SO HARD at this post. I am absolutely horrified for you, truly I am, but you have definitely put it in a humourous light!
It will grow out pretty quickly (I know from experience). In two weeks or so it will look more like Judi Dench's 'do. Until then…it's winter. Hats are totally cool.

      02/17/2010 at 7:14 pm

I actually think you look great, but it's a huge drag to get a haircut you don't like. If you do decide to go blond and spiky (or pink or blue), I hope you'll post more pics!

      02/17/2010 at 6:36 pm

I'd probably get it highlighted or colored in some funky way…and then try to stay indoors until it grew back. (Just kidding).

You are showing confidence and strength to rock a haircut like that…go for it!

But if you must go outdoors, check out these hats with hair attached…it might do the trick!

      02/17/2010 at 5:56 pm

Wow. That is much shorter than a pixie cut. But really, it will grow to a good length soon. I'm sorry, I've had bad cuts before and I know it's hard to deal with. Did you black her eye for stealing all your hair?? I say do some pale blonde highlights to add something to it and then pink the tips. That would be cute.

    44. ♥ Kathy
      02/17/2010 at 5:38 pm

I would totally add some bold, bright highlights and then spike it up…that would look less boyish…bless your heart. This is why I never get my hair cut unless I'm cutting it myself.

    45. Alyce
      02/17/2010 at 5:29 pm

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you! I've been complaining because I got my hair cut last Friday and had a similar experience (except mine was supposed to be a shoulder-length bob and she cut it to just below my ears). I've been wearing a hat and not allowing photos – I'm headed towards looking like a boy too. You are so much braver than I am.

I say color it or add some highlights and then style it with gel? :) Oh, and I have a friend with super-short hair who says that using a lot of eye makeup distracts from short hair. I don't know if that's helpful though – I don't think I could pull it off that's for sure.

Until it grows out you have an excellent excuse to go hat shopping! :)

      02/17/2010 at 5:29 pm

I don't know what you're complaining about … Z has this same haircut and loves it. ;)

I think the bad haircut is just one of life's inevitable things. It's a story you can tell later to the next person it happens to. And I agree that this is your chance to do something fun with the color because you aren't working in an office or anything!

    47. K
      02/17/2010 at 5:28 pm

I hate bad haircuts! (Not saying you look bad, just that it's bad when you don't get what you want!)I hate my hair I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to style in general.

I think you could totally pull this off. It will grow soon and you can spike it up a bit with some gel – it's look trendy!

      02/17/2010 at 5:28 pm

Oh, Jenners, I'm sad you had to experience this. I recently went to get my hair cut and it definitely turned out shorter than I expected. Why does this always happen.

New hair stylist next time? And maybe take a photo?

    49. Jackie
      02/17/2010 at 5:27 pm

I say "work it" too! Makeup…earrings…bold jewelery. Honestly though…it is cute…and you may end up liking it more than you think in a week or two. Personally, I love short hair.

      02/17/2010 at 5:14 pm

Oh Jenners… you make me laugh SO MUCH.

I say dye it blue. Definitely. And then rock that 'do like you meant for it to happen!

(And also, your boobs are way too big for your "transformation to a boy" to be anywhere NEAR complete. Just sayin'.)

    51. country girl
      02/17/2010 at 5:09 pm

After an experience like this, I always bring a picture of exactly what I want! I think the cut you were after is called a 'pixie.' I've learned to be 200% specific with figaros. I've had a haircut that looked like a boy, and one that looked like an 80's wig. Cried both times. Luckily, hair grows. You'll be fine. Maybe bleach it?!
      :)

    52. Jennifer
      02/17/2010 at 5:05 pm

It would look adorable blonde and spiky! Maybe Pink and spiky? Just get some product and make it look good! We all have those, OMG what did this hairdresser just do to me, moments. Play with it and see what makes it work. Plus it will grow out and it will be but a memory!

    53. Nana
      02/17/2010 at 5:00 pm

Yep, get some highlights and big earrings. I bet in a week you will love it. That has happened to me too. Too long of a story.

      You are too funny.

      02/17/2010 at 4:54 pm

I know you don't want to hear this, but seriously.. doesn't look that bad. I suggest bleach blond and spike it. Or wear hoodies all the time and say your a britney spears impersanator.

And I can't stop laughing over " my transformation into a boy is almost complete".. idk why, that is just cracking my shit up.

    55. pinkknotes
      02/17/2010 at 4:53 pm

Whenever I get my haircut and have something in mind, I always bring a picture and tell the stylist "make it look like that and I'll tip you!" :)

Just remember that hair does grow back! Unless it all falls out. But then you can get a wig! (I'm really stretching it, aren't I? Sorry.)

      02/17/2010 at 4:49 pm

Oh, forgot to say I've had this happen to me – twice – different hairstylists.

    58. Carol Burnside
      02/17/2010 at 4:47 pm

Okay, not that you asked for it, but my advice is to make it look like this is what you intended. Go for bold and edgy. Big dangling earrings or loops and bright highlights or go completely bold with bright red or platinum. In a few weeks, have (suggest different hairdresser) the edges cut more wispy to soften around your face.

It's a very nice face, BTW. Keep smiling.
