“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event
hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Because I’m technically under a Self-Imposed Book Buying Ban for 2010, I tend to shy away from getting too excited about books that are coming out as I can’t buy them anyway. But, with my Amazon gift certificate from Mother’s Day burning a hole in my pocket, I decided I would be wise and make sure there wasn’t anything coming out that I really really needed to get my hands on right away. (You know … in case Mr. Jenners doesn’t go for my brilliant idea of exchanging gifts for the Fourth of July). And sure enough, there were TWO books that I MUST HAVE IMMEDIATELY upon their release. Here is one. I’ll tell you about the other next week.

    The Lion by Nelson DeMille
    Release Date: June 8, 2010
Why I Want It: I love DeMille’s books featuring smart-ass detective John Corey and was irritated beyond belief when DeMille’s last book (The Gate House) was a sequel to a non-Corey book (The Gold Coast). So finally the book I’ve been anxiously awaiting since Corey’s last appearance in Wild Fire is almost here!!! Corey fans rejoice!

Description from Amazon: In this eagerly awaited follow-up to The Lion’s Game, John Corey, former NYPD Homicide detective and special agent for the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is back. And, unfortunately for Corey, so is Asad Khalil, the notorious Libyan terrorist otherwise known as “The Lion.” Last we heard from him, Khali had claimed to be defecting to the US only to unleash the most horrific reign of terrorism ever to occur on American soil. While Corey and his partner, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, chased him across the country, Khalil methodically eliminated his victims one by one and then disappeared without a trace. Now, years later, Khalil has returned to America to make good on his threats and take care of unfinished business. “The Lion” is a killing machine once again loose in America with a mission of revenge, and John Corey will stop at nothing to achieve his own goal — to find and kill Khahil.

Are you a John Corey fan? If so, how excited are you that we finally get another book featuring him?

"irritated beyond belief" because The Gate House featured John Sutter, not John Corey? They're virtually interchangeable. And after the two-hundredth totally gratuitous, ill-advised smart-ass comment, the charm begins to wear thin—on either of 'em.

(be irritated, however, because Gate House was so overlong, repetitive, uninspired & otherwise mediocre.)

I am a DeMille fan. Having grown up on the north shore of Long Island and quite familiar with the setting for some of DeMille's books didn't hurt in making me a fan! But my favorite DeMille books have Jon Corey in them, I think he is an awesome smart-ass NYPD Detective and brings me back to my prosecutor days!

      Enjoy!

ME too, although I am only cautiously optimistic. I've so enjoyed DeMille but his last book The Gate House was laughable IMO.

I have Still Alice on my TBR list, but I'll wait your review on this next one. I think we should exchange gifts on July 4th as well, see if you can get Mr. Jenners to start the tradition.

I've not read any DeMille but I suspect I would enjoy his work. Enjoy the break from your book buying ban with your Amazon certificate!

I've never read anything by Demille but I have heard so much good that I'm practically obligated now to read his books :)

I haven't read anything by DeMille. Do you think the John Corey books might be something my hubby might like (he likes thrillers).

John Corey? Not an author I'm familiar with – I shall certainly have to google him.

I'm a Nelson DeMille fan, but I'm not sure I've read any of his John Corey books.

What? Another smart-ass protagonists of a series? How have I missed this? It really makes me depressed sometimes when I think of all the books (and series) I need to read. I'll probably die first.

Yesterday, I typed "John Corey" in the search field on my library's web site…and saw that the new book is in the process of being acquired.

To make the wait easier, I'm got What Was Lost and Still Alice, and I put a few books on hold (all based on your reviews).

Words cannot convey how much I am in love with John Corey. His smart-ass-edness is everything I love in another human being.

And how exited am I over this new one? Excited enough to pre-order the danged thing. (Now I have 3 books on pre-order with Amazon, which may be a personal best record for me).
