• It Is Summer … So My Blogging Has Gone Down The Toilet

    by  • 06/30/2010 • My Take On... • 30 Comments

I told you my blogging would get erratic in the summer. I’m stopping by only to impart these few brief random thoughts.

    • Toy Story 3 is really really good. It is not often when the third film in a series exceeds the first two, but I think this happened with this movie. It was incredibly funny and deeply moving. Perfect for the kids and adults. I swear, only Pixar seems to be able to get this balance absolutely spot-on time after time. Bring tissues though … the end had me in a puddle of tears. Be sure to see it!!
The best movie I’ve seen in ages!
    Spanish Buzz just killed me.
And the gambling scene in the vending machine? Classic!
    The ending was perfection.
And how cute are those little peas in the pod?

    • I always said I wanted to have the house where the kids hang out, but now I’m rethinking this after one of the Little One’s little friends thought it would be a good idea to use a glue stick … while sitting on my couch. Glue got all over the couch cushions. And the kicker is that the Little One sat there and watched her do it and then came to tell me.
    • Big news! The Little One went to his very first sleepover. Even though it was right next door (we share a backyard), I was a nervous wreck. I was convinced he would freak out and want to come home at some ungodly hour. However, he could have cared less if I was there or not. In fact, he would have stayed over until the end of time if I let him. Based on the whining that ensued when I came to pick him up, I should have just let him stay there.

I’ve really got nothing else to say and I’m so not in a blogging mood. If I don’t “check in” before then, have a happy 4th of July (for U.S. residents only). For everyone else, enjoy the start of the seventh month of the year.

Feeling out-of-sorts, hot, sweaty and unwanted by my child,

The Bear's mom never let him go to a sleepover (EVER) and she's a crazy person. DON'T BE THAT MOM. I'm so glad you let him go. The Bear is an only child and is just now working out being uber over-protected.
I was an only child and my mom let me have freedom and I turned out waaaaaaay more rounded and independent. And my mother isn't a crazy woman who think she's allergic to cooked cheese but will eat it cold all day long. But I digress.

(That cheese thing is a true story about the Bear's mom. Don't tell her I said. She'll cry and yell. Please, Jenners, let your kid go to lots of sleepovers so you don't become allergic to hot cheese.)

What the heck happened to this comment??

I feel a little out of blogging sorts too. Maybe it's in the air.

You're still Mom and always will be special to him. You're the one his poor future wife will never be able to equal.

Thanks for the warning about TS3, I'll be sure to bring tissue – if I get to see it in theater that is. My mother-in-law took the boys to see it while we were on vacation and they all loved it. We're going to see The Airbender movie tonight. Avatar the Last Airbender, the tv cartoon, is a favorite of all in our household, so we've been really looking forward to the movie.

LOVED TS3…although my 3 yr old didn't like the "bad monkey" And vmy blogging seems to be lacking too…I think I'll just take a hiatus and read everyone else's for a while!!

And my kids will have their very st sleepover at the end of the month..at Grandma's while the hubs and I go to SF!! I can't wait!!

You are not unwanted by your kid… I bet he did miss you a lot! It's just that he also wants to try some independence. Good practice for him – and for his parents. I'm still not very good at letting mine go – and they're 7 and 9!!

Definitely want to see Toy Story 3 when it comes out over here. My sister said that the last Shrek was also really good.

      Happy summer!

Jenners: I've heard such a mix of reviews on this movie. I"ve heard it's frightening, also.

      What do you think?

      ANd enjoy your 4th!!

Well hey at least you raised him right so he is able to leave you right??

My family all saw Toy Story 3 and loved it, my mom was afraid there were all going to come to their demise though. I will have to wait until it comes to video.

I loved Toy Story 3! I was crying at the beginning of it, too. And I had completely lost it by the end. I'm trying to get the boys to see it again.

Have a great weekend! I'm not sure if I'm posting before it either.

It's a good thing that he wanted to stay over even longer. Means he well adjusted :)

Ahhh…you will never be unwanted by your child, he is just learning that a change is as good as a rest :-)

Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend.

I can't wait to watch Toy Story 3. I really need to get both my boys together and take them to see it before it leaves the theatres!

Sorry "little one" isn't giving you the love he should – but trust me – you are very much wanted.

      :-)

I thought "3" was the best of the series too, but it was Ken and Barbie who cracked me up most! Glad you all are enjoying your summer!

I can relate to the Little One's story of the sleepover….

My eldest has always been a social butterfly, so when she was only two I enrolled her in "preschool" (met two days a week for two hours each day). I, too, was curious how she would handle this new experience, and on the first day I arrived to pick her up right on time. Imagine my dismay – in fact, total embarrassment, when she took one look at me and ran the other way screaming, "I don't want to go home!!" Yes, this was our routine for the entire 9 months!

Toy Story 3 ROCKS! And I agree, has WAY surpassed 1 and 2. Hooray for first sleepovers … good times.

Loved the movie; cried like a baby. It didn't help that I was sitting my 13 and 11 year old boys who are each growing too fast for my liking. All I could think of during the ending was them saying good bye as they went off to college.

I'm still picky about who the boys spend the night with. There are some days I'm glad when they go, but I still like it that they want to be here too.

The sleepover is just one of many quests The Little One must complete (and you must survive) before YOUR job as mom is in the bag.

The fact that he accomplished it without separation anxiety is a VERY GOOD thing.

Next time, go out and find some friends your own size – they can distract you from focusing too much on your impending sense of doom.

Trust me, I know this, first hand.

And during your next session with Dr. June, we'll discuss the benefits of Xanax. :)

I haven't let mine stay overnight w/friends yet. I keep thinking once it starts it won't quit, so I'm just waiting on it until later on.. b/c I think Ace is a "call at midnight" type. And I don't want to make any midnight trips, lol.

I've been out of the blogging mood, too. Just posting "enough" to not be forgotten, lol. I can't wait to see Toy Story, everyone says great things about it!

We're heading to Toy Story 3 tomorrow – little T Rex's very first movie outing. Hoping for the best since we really want to see it.

And I was always the kid who called my mom in the middle of the night to pick her up at the sleep over. She did not appreciate it. And every time she'd drop me off she would ask, "Are you sure?" and of course, I would say "yes". But then she'd have to come get me. Maybe we should have tried the neighbor's yard first.

I took my granddaughters, ages 3 & 4, to see Toy Story 3. It was their first experience in a regular movie theater. Other than an emergency run to the bathroom at a key point in the movie, it was a success. I loved that the humor was layered so that both children and adults found it funny. It was a touching story…I was surprised at the emotions.

Everyday I hear, "When can we see Toy Story 3? When can we see Toy Story 3?" Now imagine 10 more repetitions before breakfast :) I better get my kiddos there quick before they explode from anticipation!

this being my first summer to blog,
i concur that it is much harder to do.

so many fun activities to compete.

i thought toy story 3 was adorable,
      too.

I loved Toy Story too. Although Big Baby did kind of freak me out, but I think that was the point. The scene on the swing?! I left wishing Baby Girl would get rid of all her dolls. LOL

Sorry to let you know you are wrong wrong wrong in your interpretation of this as a rejection, but the fact that TLO can go to a sleep over AT HIS AGE means that he has a mom who is SO GOOD, she has made him feel incredibly secure and independent! Quite an accomplishment I'd say! (so your only fault is that you are wrong wrong wrong!)

Glad you liked the movie. Neither of my kids want to see it (sad face) though. Guess I'll have to wait for grandchildren.

      Then we'll both be classics!

All of my kids (all 4 of them) prefer to spend time with others!! It is kind of nice, especially when hubs and I want some time away from kiddos! They NEVER have an issue with spending the night with anyone. Enjoy it.
