I tried this meme for the first time last week, and it was a kicklike fitting together a puzzle. So I’m back and, as often as time permits, I’ll be a regular participant. Here are the rules:

Each linked essay must be 100 words or less, not including the “prompt” words. No pictures should be used. No profanity. The prompt words can be used in any place within your story but must be left intact. You cannot split the prompt.

This week’s prompt was: I listened to them from my perch on the top step and didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. Here is what I came up with.

    The Interloper

The slamming of car doors and the shrieking of The Children startled me awake. As they burst through the door like a hurricane, my displeasure was disrupted by a strange smell. I sniffed the air disbelievingly. Canine!!?! It couldn’t be.

Moving swiftly, I crept to the top of the stairs. And there It wasa caramel-colored, floppy-eared puppyradiating its stench and filling the air with frantic yaps. The Children were gathered around It squealing with joy. I listened to them from my perch on the top step and didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. But, being a cat, I settled on studied indifference and stalked off to decide how to deal with The Interloper.

Drawing upon my childhood pets for inspiration,

It was nice to see a different perspective, of a cat, made it very unique.

      Thanks, Jenners.

Fabulous – I like that it's written from the cat's perspective. Cats are so mysterious so kind of cool to read about what one is thinking.

LOL, I wasn't expecting that. You really had a great way of telling how a cat would think. I'm sure it will give that interloper a run for it's money, ha. Very clever Centus.

Great essay Jenner! I don't have a cat but you captured 'the cat attitude' perfectly!
I write too (have written an ebook about weight loss) and am currently enjoying connecting with other writers and mums.

Awesome! I didn't know the heroine of the story until the very last moment. You have a gift, my friend. Words are like putty on your keyboard.
Ugh. That would be gross wouldn't it?
