A list of topics to write about can be found here. I’ll be participating in a few but not all because my mom is coming to visit later this week so I must get the house Mother Clean before she arrives.

I wanted to write a quick review of Mockinjay, but aren’t you sick of  Mockingjay reviews? So this isn’t really going to be a review because, let’s face it, this is Book 3 of a series. If you’ve read the first two, chances are you’re going to read Mockingjay no matter what anyone else says about it. And if you didn’t read the first two books, then why would you care about the third book?

Actually, a few bloggers have already captured so much of what I thought about this book–particularly Beth Fish Reads, Ti at Book Chatter and Jill at Fizzy Thoughts–so it seems silly for me to repeat stuff that they said already. (Just a hint: They weren’t the biggest fans of the book and neither was I.) So I’m going to touch on a few things and then check it off my Big Old List of Reviews To Write.

    • As with most trilogies, the first installment is usually the best–the one that hooks you and keeps you going. They usually go downhill afterward. I thought this was the case with this particular trilogy. Looking back now, I realize the attraction of this series for me was the whole concept of the Hunger Games itself. It was exciting and freaky and weird, and then I felt kind of “meh” about the rest of the story.
    • Did anyone else immediately think that Katniss would be on a version of Panem Idol when she talks about being on a singing competition at the end of the book?
    • I was disappointed with the whole District 13 thing. I guess I was expecting more. It was just like in The Matrix movies when they finally get to Zion. It was a bit of a letdown.

And that’s it. I didn’t really care for the book.

    Have a great BBAW!

Haven't read Catching Fire yet, so I didn't read the whole post. Just wanted to say Happy BBAW.

Yep, Panem Idol. I think that was the point…nothing had really changed.

LOL – "Mother clean"… That brought back memories. Once when the kids were young I was going to go work out at the gym and my mom who had just stopped over said, "I would not be going anywhere if my house looked like this."

      Ahhhh……. mothers. :D

I've heard that Mockingjay is a let down, but I'm reading it for book club, so we'll see what happens.

I wasn't super thrilled with Mockingjay either – and I love the Matrix reference!

I love your entry form, and "Mother Clean ". I'm doing the Sister clean thing today. My mother is not so picky, my sister or anal.

Often, I only realize that a book is part of a series AFTER I've read it and LOVED it. This truly burns me. Here, here, Kristen. Give me a strong one-book to ease my impatience.

(But I still heart you Hunger Games trilogy!)

Yeah, I'm kind of getting burned out on too many books being part of a series. I would love to see more strong one-book stories out there!
