Writer’s Workshop: 10 Reasons I’m Glad It’s Fall

Time for Writer’s Workshop! Head on over to Mama Kat’s to join in.
This week, I’m choosing prompt 5: 10 reasons why you’re glad it’s fall.
Dexter! Every September, we subscribe to Showtime to watch the funniest, sickest and most involving serial killer show ever made. And after last season’s whopper of an ending, we couldn’t WAIT to see what was going to happen this season. This is one case where I think the show is better than the books.
Halloween! This is one of my favorite holidays. You get to dress up and get candy! What could be better?
Cooler weather! I don’t do well in heat so I thrive in the cooler fall temperatures. Plus, the cooler weather means I can wear pants again … which means I can start letting my leg hair grow without worrying anyone will see.
Football! It is one of the few professional sports I actually enjoy. Although I definitely get more interested during playoff season, even I can pay attention for 16 games. Go Eagles!
Candy corn and marshmallow pumpkins! I love these type of fall candies and only let myself get them during this time of year.
Pumpkins! I love carving jack-o-lanterns and hope to make one of these really funny types this year.
Corn mazes! I think corn mazes are fun, and I can’t wait to take the Little One to a bigger one this year to see how he likes it. Maybe we can even try a haunted hayride!
The start of school! Is there anything more wonderful than the start of school for a stay-at-home mom? No … there is not. I feel like I have my life back.
Leaves changing colors! I love that we live in a climate that has all four seasons, and the fall foliage is definitely one of the highlights of the fall.
Fall smells and candles! Of all the scents, I think I enjoy the fall smells the most—pumpkin pie spices, apple cider, cinnamon spice, cranberry spice.

You forget I have an itty bitty memory and I cannot remember the finale so yeah, I’m good, lol. Let’s see, finale, well, other serial killer w/family and Dex had been tracking him, found him, can’t remember Dex got him, but tables got turned? See tiny memory, Dennis gets frustrated with me, lol.
Pretty much … I guess you forget that it ended in R’s death!!!!!!!!!
All wonderful parts of fall! We decided not to sign up for Showtime this fall and just wait for Dexter on disc but I’m dying wondering what’s going on! lol.
Are you serious? After last year’s ending? I couldn’t wait for disc if I wanted too!
I love fall too! I have to laugh, because so many people have “letting the hair on my legs grow” on their lists.
thanks for stopping by and commenting on my panic post.
I guess the “hairy legs of winter” are more common than I knew! Whew … glad I’m not the only one.
LURVE your reasons! I agree with many of them!
Let the leg hair grow!
I love the gorgeous colors of fall as I walk around. I’m with you when it comes to using the razor less. Hopefully, hubby doesn’t notice
LOL.
Well, hubby gets no say in this!
Totally love your list! Definitely looking forward to the leaves turning color and the cooler weather here! It’s been one heck of a summer and I’m glad it’s over! Hoping to see if we can find some fun Halloween parades to be in this year. Wonder if they will have candy corn because I really miss eating those!
Do they do Halloween in Japan or is it an “ex-pat” thing?
I think it use to be just an ex-pat thing but in recent years, people have started celebrating it more and more. It’s essentially a commercial event more than anything else.
Oh, how I love autumn… (that’s British for ‘fall’!)
I love growing my leg hair, lighting candles, watching the leaves turn colour, getting frozen fingers and yes – hurray for Halloween and pumpkin soup!
We call it “autumn” here in the states too … that is the fancy schmancy term!
Such great reasons to love fall.
Yay for Fall! I love it too!
It is the best season … along with spring.
We love, love, love Halloween around here. And I’m looking forward to see what kind of pumpkin you carve this year.
So do you read scary books, too, since it’s spooky season?
Let me guess about T-Rex’s Halloween costume … Buzz? Woody? We were going that way but had a sudden shift to Star Wars last week!
And we don’t read scary books … Mr. Little One is prone to bad dreams!
Did you know you can’t email back?
Actually we are going to be one of those weird homeschooling families.
But it is a nice thought, though.
I wasn’t sure about the e-mailing back.
And you are going to homeschool???? Yowza … you are a better woman than me!
This is my favorite time of year, also! I love it!
And just think how great it will be when both girls are in school!
I’m right with you on the cooler weather and being able to hide leg hair. The only problem is that we have had a few warmer days this week. It’s amazing how fast leg hair can grow when you’re not paying attention (and then you go out in public in a pair of capris).
I know … I’ve been blindsided by warmer weather too. I guess it isn’t quite long pants season yet!
I love fall, especially the cool weather. And, as far as I’m concerned, candy corn is one the greatest things ever!!
Yay for candy corn!
I love fall, and cooler temps? Can you tell someone out here in CA that it’s fall? Cuz dang it’s 11:15 pm and it’s still 80 degrees!
I can NOT do candy corn, it’s soooooo sweet….makes my teeth ache just looking at the pic!
It was 80 degrees this past weekend … apparently NJ didn’t get the message until this week.
But like last year’s birthday cake, blog about it even if it doesn’t. lol
Oops, I meant for that to go under your reply to Amanda’s comment about the puking pumpkin.
Did you know if you chew a few peanuts while you’re eating candy corn it takes like a PayDay candy bar? I think that’s the candy bar it tastes like. Anyway, try it…it’s so good.
Thanks for the tip!
Exactly … the more messed up it is, the better it is for the blog.
Except for the Yankee candle and the smells it represents, I’m right there with you. Wet leaves are a horrid smell to me. Soggy, decaying nastiness.
Well, golly gee, thanks for being a downer on the fall season. (I’m with you … wet leaves = decay = not good.)
Maybe this makes me a giant wuss but that photo of Dexter gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Well, then I guess the show wouldn’t be a good match for you. It gets way worse than that.
love the natural cashmere socks . . .
…and I love your perspective on those socks!
CANDY CORN!!! … and hairy legs. Sweet!
And yeah, I love my kids to bits, but holy moly, the minute they leave for school, I lock the door, throw off my clothes and do naked cartwheels!!! Or I would, if I could do cartwheels.
Thanks for visiting my blog — you are totally yum! xo
Isn’t it shameful how happy we can be when the kiddos go off to school?
That is also when I eat my candy corn!
I love the way fall looks & smells. I love pumpkins. Just the word “pumpkin” looks and sounds good to me. I learned at the Ellis Island National Park center that we have our French immgrants to thank for getting “pumpkin” into the American lexicon.
I love Halloween & Thanksgiving. My birthday is on All Souls Day.
I like the new seasons of shows I watch: Nurse Jackie, The Office, Mad Men.
In fact, the only downside of fall is the onset of football. Can’t stand it.
I’m an Office fan too! Can you believe this is going to be Steve Carell’s last year?
But will The Office go on? Think they’ll give Kathy Bates a bigger role?
I can’t imagine what they will do … but I’ve heard the show is going to continue. How about Dwight finally in charge? That would be … awful!
I love so many of these things, too! I love that Charlie Brown special! Do not love candy corn though. Ick.
Isn’t the Charlie Brown show the best? Though it is better in my memory. When I watched it last year with my son, I thought “This is really really slow moving.”
I’m with you! Fall is the best time of year. I missed fall so much when I was living in Southern California. I grew up in Colorado, and we had four seasons there, too. Now I live in Georgia, and while fall and spring are abbreviated, and winter is not a proper winter, and summer is wayyyy too much summer, I do at least have some semblance of seasons to enjoy.
I think it does make a difference when you are used to four seasons and then lose them. When I was in high school, my family moved to Montana and it felt like there was 4 days of spring, 50 days of summer, 4 days of fall, and then the rest was winter. Not fun!
Love the pumpkin scene. We must have the same sense of humor, especially since I am with you about shaving the legs!!!
Hairy legs and puking pumpkins … what could be better?
I have Showtime but have never watched that show. I’ll have to check it out. That hairy legs pic cracked me up. I LOVE candy corn too…made myself sick off of it last year though!
I usually get sick on the candy corn too. It is so small that it is easy to overdo it.
And check out Dexter … but start from Season 1.
I share your love of fall. Loved the pictures, especially the pumpkin
Isn’t that pumpkin hilarious?
I’ve never been in a corn maze, but it sounds like a MUST!! Now where to find one…..
My boys would love it!
Great Post, by the way!
This time of year, it should be pretty easy to find a corn maze of some type! Good luck … they are fun!
I’ve been meaning to check out Dexter on Netflix…maybe this Fall is the time to start!
Love the smells and colors of Fall. And what red-blooded mom doesn’t love when school starts?
(Cue Staples ad)
It really IS the most wonderful time of the year!
I love that Staples ad!
And you’ve so gotta watch Dexter … I think you would LOVE it!
I’m so with you on Dexter. Fantastic show and even better than the books.
Isn’t it so good? I could not believe the ending of last year’s season. Shocking! That show keeps you on your toes. I’m anxious to see how this season plays out.
Hey you forgot that in the fall you don’t have to have perfect toenails either. I do love my corn mazes (alas because of FOOTBALL, which I love of course, we get very little else done).
Good point! And if you add in hats, I don’t need to worry about my hair either! Basically, I can let myself go to hell in a handbasket.
I can definitely relate to many of your reasons here. Love fall smells!!! and candy corn & candy pumpkins and that leg hair business. My kids are grown, but even now I like the routine that comes with this time of year. (lots of my activities take the summer off)
No football for me. No Dexter, either…but my younger daughter has all the past seasons on DVD so I can always watch them when I decide to take the time.
Glad to hear you can try Dexter when you want … I’m in LOVE with that show.
I like the fall as well, and agree with everything, except the football. I love your hair legs. I really hate shaving/or hair removal. I’d love to see your pumpkin too. Not looking forward to the season of cold though, that follows the pumpkin time.
True … the one big disadvantage of this time of year is the cold/flu season. We’ll all be looking like that pumpkin!
I concur with pretty much all of those reasons! Now… if only it would get a little cooler around here we could get on with it!
I know! The weather just needs to realize it is fall and stop acting like summer!
I agree with almost all of your reasons for loving fall, though I must say that I am not a huge football fan. The cooler weather, Halloween and all those fall colors and smells are high up on my list. Also, I get to wear my boots again, which always makes me a happy girl!
A good pair of boots is a thing of joy indeed. Unfortunately, I don’t have a pair (just ugly snow boots). I think I need to rectify this.
Love the pumpkin! I just read an article on how candy corn is made, and it may actually have cured me of wanting it. I mean, not that the heads are chopped off of any animals, but just the list of ingredients ….
OK … I don’t need you ruining my candy corn. (Unless I eat too much … then I might ask you for the information.)
Ew, pumpkin. Not pumpkin in general, just that specific vomiting pumpkin…
I love fall, but I really miss it down here. We just had our first cold front and the night got down to almost 60 degrees. Of course it’s still 85 during the day, but it’s SLIGHTLY cooler…yeah I miss living up north, where the trees change colors and you’re not wearing shorts on Thanksgiving.
Isn’t that pumpkin awful? It just cracks me up though. I so want to make one of these this year. I’ll be sure to blog it if I comes out good!
I love the cooler nights and lower humidity – so much better for sleeping!
My neighbors always say “It is good sleeping weather tonight.” : )
I would have to agree with everything up there except Football. Sadly the only knowledge I have of football is what I learned in ‘Waterboy’. Or unless they mention it in books
Corn Mazes are the BESTTT though!
Hey … I’ll give you a pass on football … but not corn mazes! : )
Fall does have some advantages, but I sure don’t like the shorter days. I do love that jack-o-lantern though – it is hysterical! I LOVE football – but college not the pros – and plop my butt in front of the TV on Saturdays during the fall.
It seems that people are either college football fans or pro football fans. Perhaps the only difference is which day you watch it! HAHA! : )
I love Fall! Nobody needs to see this body in summertime apparel. *shudder*
I hear you … I definitely have a fall/winter body!
Oh you and my hub with the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m not a football fan but GO PATS! LOL
It will be difficult when my Eagles play your Pats!
