Light Sabers, Bugs and Squirrels, Oh My!
by Jenners • 10/17/2010 • BB/The Little One, Cool Photos • 90 Comments
For no particular reason, I thought I’d show you some photos that Mr. Jenners took this week. The first three show the Little One playing with his General Grievous Double Action Light Saber that he got for his birthday. Then there are some photos of bugs that are both interesting and horrifying at the same time. Then, a squirrel!

eek at the spider picture (I have a spider phobia) but at least it’s eating a stinkbug!!
Those light saber pics are really cool; and I like your latest new blog look. I’ve had the same blog header for the last two years
.
Sorry about that spider! : )
And I’m such a goof when it comes to switching up my blog look. I just can’t leave it alone. I just love your header, but after two years, I think I would have to make a change!
Those weird shaped bugs with flat backs are some of my favorites! We have them around here too. I don’t know why I’ve never bothered to look up what they are. I assume they’re some sort of beetle. They always show up on the outside of our window screens. (Lord, I’m a nerd.)
Someone told me they are stink bugs. Don’t squish ‘em … I guess they smell if you do!
Luckily I don’t squish bugs. They’re my buddies.
Love the crazy zany light saber action! And that red bug with the southwestern design, so unique! My spider looks like he found enough food for weeks. :0)
Aren’t those light saber photos fun? The Little One loves looking at them. And that bug is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen.
Lovely photos. Tell Mr. Jenners that he is the next Harold Edgerton. Bug pictures are fabulous, too.
OK … now I’ve got to Google Harold Edgerton.
those are extremely cool. Where did you get the lightsaber and does it fully retract. You know I’m a lightsaber collector….
We got it at Toys R Us but Target has it too. It is about $35. You can put the two ends in to make it shorter. You can have two light sabers OR connect them to have a double-sided light saber OR put them into this spinning thing that allows you to spin them around by just flicking your wrist. REALLY COOL!
and check these guys out…

all stink bugs
k, I’m done playing now LOL
You crack me up!! This series of photos was pretty cool … and kind of getting close to my guy. Who knew that bugs could actually look pretty … because these guys do!
or maybe this guy lol http://www.ent.iastate.edu/imagegal/hemiptera/stinkbug/spined_soldier_bug.html
here’s a pic http://www.ent.iastate.edu/imagegal/hemiptera/stinkbug/brown_stink_bug_adult.html I think that’s your bug
I love the light saber shots…too cool! Ummm isn’t that first bug a stink bug? It kinda looks like one…don’t smash him! We are OV. ER. RUN. with squirrels this year and sadly, acorns. Just why the squirrels are not eating the acorns I don’t know. Maybe it’s the 6 pecan trees in the backyard…
A stink bug you say? I’ll have to google that and see if I can get a match. thanks!
The beetle is cool, but I wasn’t quite prepared for the spider when I scrolled down. Spiders are one of the few creatures that never look good to me no matter how artistic their designs.
I know … they are so freaky looking. Perhaps I should have had a warning: SPIDER AHEAD!
Nah, no warning needed – I’m just a big wimp when it comes to spiders.
lights–awesome
bug–cool
spider–yuck
That was a cool bug, wasn’t it?
The light saber ones are too cool! Looks like both Mr. Jenners and the Little One had too much fun taking those photos. I had to skip the bug photos because seeing them makes me want to throw a shoe at my computer screen to “kill” them. I’m pretty sure my computer would not appreciate that gesture.
On behalf of your computer, I say “thank you.”
Very cool light saber pictures! I am not looking forward to the weapons stage- the superhero costume stage is tough enough and I am BORED of having to be the bad guy! How did you take those pictures? Special setting!
that bug is incredible- looks like tribal markings!
My husband says you need to use some kind of low light setting to get those light trails. I have no idea what I’m doing with cameras.
Those light saber shots are so cool! And that spider shot is amazing, creepy but amazing.
Isn’t that spider shot something else? So freaky looking! And that is pretty much life-sized. He’s a big one.
I love your bug/rodent pics. I’ve been blown away by all the wild life we have running through our yard right now. There’s squirrels, chipmunks, an occasional raccoon, birds, it’s like a Disney movie out there!
So funny! Perhaps you should sing a bit and see if they will gather round you or perch on your shoulder.
I LOVE the light saber shots! The spider I could have done without!
And you cracked me up when you said that the squirrels feet creeped you out, they are a little strange aren’t they?
When you really look at squirrel feet, they are very freaky!
I like the first photo where TLO’s face is right in the center of all the freaky light activity.
That was the first (and only) photo I’ve been allowed to show of the TLO’s face so it is historic as well.
I have a freaky doll shot that I managed to get with light trails quite by accident when I took that film class last year. Light trails are just so cool!!
That squirrel looks ginormous.
Did you ever post your freaky doll shot? I’d love to see it. I love light trail photos too. (Obviously.)
Ok, can I just tell you how much I love the randomness of these photographs and captions? And also, your husband knows how to take a great picture. Very awesome!
It is random, isn’t it? And I’m sure my husband (who only reads comments if it somehow involves him) will be very happy to read your comment.
That looks like just about the coolest light saber ever!
And the photos of the bugs are really amazing. Good job Mr. Jenners. The spider one totally creeped me out. No preying mantis photos?
We didn’t see any preying mantises this year at all … and usually we see so many. I think they all migrated to this cool house in Idaho where they get names and everything! ; )
I love the photos and that bug is really cool. Squirrel feet are creepy, I have a crazed squirrel that lives behind our house. She steals all the bird seed. Bad squirrel…
Squirrels + bird seed = Major theft!
Wow…these are ALL great photos!! I could have some fun with that light saver myself. If Mr. Jenners has a smart phone perhaps he should look for one of the free apps that turns it into a light saber (in sound only, of course).
Both bug shots are fascinating. I prefer the spider since I’m less creeped out by them than most bugs.
As for the squirrel…. you probably don’t want to know my thoughts on that one. Just remember that I’m a redneck girl in the south. ‘Nuf said.
I’m thinking your thoughts on the squirrel are: “Yummy! Dinner!” HAHA!
OK, I LOVE the light saber pictures!
They really look like light sabers, don’t they?
Those light saber pictures are awesome! Whoa! And that bug is beautiful. It looks like a Native American woven blanket or something. The squirrel was cute…until you pointed out his feet. Are all squirrels’ feet like that?? Eewww!
That is what we thought … it looked like a blanket from Mexico or Africa.
The Little One looks very galactic in his Jedi moves!! All cool pics.
Isn’t that cool looking? I have to say, we are all digging that light saber!
You’re right, those bugs are just a tad on the CREEPY side…
Just a tad…
Great shots! I’m loving the light saber ones. Yes, the squirrel’s feet freaked me out, too – now that you mention it.
Have pleasant dreams filled with images of creepy squirrel feet.
Wonderful photos! Those light saber ones are great
Ewwww about the bugs!!! And that squirrel reminds me of my Diego…his feet look like that lol.
Arrrghh … those long toes kind of freak me out! I don’t know if I could hand out with your Diego! HAHA!
Cool light saber photos! I wonder what kind of bug that is (the one with the colorful markings).
I’m going to try and find out. It is such an interesting looking bug (when it isn’t on your arm … like it was yesterday).
The light saber pix remind me of pictures my son took of our Christmas lights. Only the lights were standing still & Kyle was moving the camera around…
Very cool!
We do those types of photos with the Christmas lights too. Aren’t they the coolest?
What great pictures! My son went through a huge Star Wars phase, with multiple sabers and interactive saber tv games and stuff. That obsession lasted for a good five years! Those pictures of the bugs are both horrifying and fascinating…I can’t stop looking at them!
Five years!!??? I’ve got five more years of this??? You know, I have less interesting light saber that I have to fight the Little One with. Mine doesn’t even light up. It cost $7. Humph.
At least the Costco version is cheaper than the $200 version my husband bought at the mall a few years ago. And he got two of them so he could “battle” with his son, who is 23.
Love the pics. Especially the last light saber one with the pretty folds at the top. How cool is that.
Your comment just cracked me up!!!! When we were looking at the light sabers, we saw a few “adult” versions that were really pricey .. you know, the ones your husband bought!
Awesome photos — truly great
light + slow shutter speed = fun!
Wow cool shots, especially the light saber pics. The pic where the little one appears twice is pretty neat!
Thank goodness that is an optical illusion and there aren’t two of him. I couldn’t handle that.
I always thought I was out of it, but you just confirmed it – I don’t know who General Grievous is. I enjoyed the photos – thanks for sharing.
General Grievous is in the most recent set of Star Wars movies (the ones in the 1990s). He can fight with 4 light sabers at one time so he is super cool to the kids.
Awesome photos….never heard of a light saber (guess you can tell I don’t have any little kids). Squirrels are not a favorite critter of mine…too twitchy! LOL
Light sabers come from Star Wars. And they are pretty darn cool!
My boys would love one of those. Mr. Jenners did a great job with the pictures. That bug is cool. I wonder what it is. It almost looks painted.
I know … I’ve never seen a bug like that. I should try and find out what it is.
Some great photos, I especially like the spider gift-wrapping the meal. Just who did you say was playing with the light saber though? It comes as no shock to hear that Mr Jenners has had a bit of fun with it as well. (Just a bit? Don’t know if I believe this.)
Mr. Jenners was in the living room … by himself … playing with the light saber for a good 10 minutes!
Amazing photos! I especially like the light saber ones – he must be really enjoying it
He is LOVING it. And the other day, Mr. Jenners had a bit of fun with it too.
Love the light saber! But I probably could have done with out seeing Spiders Eating Spiders….. just for future reference….
I know! Wasn’t that a horrible photo but kind of interesting too? Maybe just a little interesting? OK … I’ll warn you in the future.
I agree with OJ…NO SPIDERS!!!!!!!
Jeez, you Jills sure are spider-phobic!
Well done, Mr. Jenners! The light saber photos are really wild!
Aren’t those neat? We have fun with our Christmas lights too.
It’s so nice to see TLO even if he looks kinda ghostly.
I know!!! I was “allowed” to show this shot since you can’t really see him! My mystery kid!
Oh man – my soon to be 8 yr old son is dying to get the General Grievous Double Action Light Saber. They have them at Costco for $39.99. UGH.
Cool photos tho. I hadn’t thought of using them for my own camera fun angle tho, may have to rethink.
See, if he gets one, Mommy can have fun too!
It is pretty pricey (only birthday money got him that), but I have to say they work pretty good. The lights are pretty bright, the sounds are authentic, and you can mix up how you put them together. A rare toy that lived up to the hype.
Wonderful shots! The ones with the light sabre are quite spectacular!
Aren’t those shots cool? He had fun getting them.
