• I’m Going To Have To Issue A Citation

    by  • 11/05/2010 • My Take On... • 97 Comments

Want to see the scariest thing we saw on Halloween night?

OK … I know the photo is bad but Mr. Jenners took it with a camera phone with no flash as we were walking by and trying not to draw attention to ourselves.

Can you see what it is?

    A frigging Christmas tree!

Our neighbors put it up on Halloween night! It is bad enough the stores are shoving Christmas down our throats already, but now these people are putting up their Christmas tree in their home!!! On Halloween!!!! What the heck is wrong with them?

And it is even weirder because the house next to them still has their Halloween decorations up and lit. It like a tour of holidays down the block or something. Perhaps I should decorate for Valentine’s Day tomorrow.

Clearly our neighbors didn’t read my post about the Rules of Holiday Decorating. I’m going to have to take action and issue an official citation.

You can really buy these notepads. Click on photo for more info.

I am guessing that the people who put up a Christmas tree on Halloween are uberreligious and did so to thumb their noses at all the Devil’s Night activities.

You have a good point! I know they send their kid to a private Christian school instead of the public school. Good observation!

    3. 11/09/2010 at 6:56 pm

Putting up a Christmas Tree on Halloween Night? Total insanity! What about poor Thanksgiving? It’s getting shoved into never-never land anymore!

      I’d totally issue them a citation. :)

I know … poor Thanksgiving is not getting its due. It needs a new PR agent.

    4. 11/09/2010 at 1:00 pm

oh bad form! love your “citation form” and your “say no to Christmas: button!!!!! that’s how I feel, I’m so broke from the wedding I can’t stand to see Christmas come!

      • Jenners
        11/09/2010 at 2:37 pm

I can imagine that Christmas right after a wedding could be quite the financial strain!

Ha! Love the note pads. Maybe Santa should just leave a bag of coal on their front step this weekend and get it over with. Maybe he could attach a little note that said, “See ya next year, douchebag! Ho-ho-ho!!”

      • Jenners
        11/08/2010 at 8:41 pm

I love your attitude. Maybe Santa should hire you.

    6. 11/08/2010 at 4:38 pm

I love that citation! I need to print one off because I know a few offenders!! I’m so not in the spirit this year. It just doesn’t feel like it’s time for all of that yet.

      • Jenners
        11/08/2010 at 5:34 pm

I agree 100%. I won’t “feel” it until December (like a normal person).

      11/08/2010 at 4:37 pm

I can see why the stores have the stuff up.. I think there is only like 6 weeks left or something, but an in-house tree? Are you freaking kidding me? Perhaps they are going away for Christmas so they wanted to do it now??

Or maybe they are ultra lazy and it’s been up since last year. LOL.

      • Jenners
        11/08/2010 at 5:33 pm

It is a mystery. We’ll have to keep up our spying to figure it out.

    8. 11/08/2010 at 2:53 pm

Jenners, you and your posts are too funny! :)

        Why thank you so much!

    9. 11/07/2010 at 9:48 am

Ugh!! Thanksgiving isnt even here yet! lol
The funniest part of your post is: ‘Mr. Jenners took it with a camera phone with no flash as we were walking by and trying not to draw attention to ourselves.’
      you crack me up!!

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 6:44 pm

Well, we don’t want those nutjobs who decorate too soon to catch us!

    10. 11/07/2010 at 8:08 am

Oh that is too funny! Of course, I live in a country where Halloween and Thanksgiving don’t really exist so all we really have to look forward to is Christmas. A lot of stores have started carrying Christmas stuff for a few weeks now. In fact, I think several major parts of town have just recently put up Christmas lights and decorations.

However, YOU don’t live in Japan and I do agree that Halloween is too early for Christmas decorating. Don’t people normally start AFTER Thanksgiving? It seems like every year, they start earlier and earlier. Before you know it, everyone’s going to start decorating in July. Well, on the bright side, they’re making good use of the tree that they have!

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 6:43 pm

I suppose that is one way to look at it … they are getting their money’s worth from that tree.

    11. 11/07/2010 at 1:03 am

I’m glad you got that photo or I wouldn’t have believed it! Wow! They are really rushing things!

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 7:41 am

I know … it sounds too bizarre to be true, doesn’t it?

    12. 11/06/2010 at 11:16 pm

I’ve got to admit after visiting a Christmas open house at a little local shop this weekend, I could see myself being “that person”. Sorry….but in my defense Halloween is 1 week gone making us that closer to Thanksgiving….the official start (at our home) of the Christmas season.

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 7:40 am

Oh dear. This may be a problem. ; )

In my mind, let Thanksgiving have its moment and THEN you can give Christmas the whole month of December.

    13. 11/06/2010 at 8:45 pm

LOL, I love the infraction pad. My favorite is: failure to control children.

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 7:38 am

I could give out 100s of those citations alone at any time of year I think!

    14. Amy
      11/06/2010 at 4:15 pm

If you’re taking signatures, I’ll sign your petition. It’s galling that people are decorating for Christmas already! I used to have problems with decorting right after Thanksgiving but I have made my prace with that. But I will not stay quiet when people decorate before the ghosts and ghouls have floated away. It’s Ridiculous!

Love that citation, it’s spot on!

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 7:33 am

I know … it started creeping earlier and earlier but this is just wrong wrong wrong. Let each holiday have its moment!

    15. lee
      11/06/2010 at 3:45 pm

I like the idea of a tour of holidays on your block. Maybe it could be a fund raiser for a local charity…? Seems Christmas & Halloween are taken. You probably should put dibbs on Valentines Day pronto.or you could end up with Ground Hog’s Day.

      • Jenners
        11/07/2010 at 7:31 am

Wow … you really think big, don’t you? : )
Perhaps the charity could benefit People Suffering From Holiday Decorating Disorder.

    16. 11/06/2010 at 1:39 pm

When we lived up north, the people down the street still had a wreath on their door — in AUGUST for crying out loud!!! I finally got so sick of it, I printed out a picture of a wreath with the big red circle around it and a no symbol saying,

      It’s brown
      Take it DOWN

It was gone in a couple of days. What the hell are people thinking?

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 1:52 pm

I admire your moxie! And it got results.
        Some people just puzzle me.

    17. 11/06/2010 at 10:52 am

I love the citations! My daughters and I bought the fashion police and the whining one! Love, love, love the holiday citation! absolutely perfect for those who think Christmas starts in July!

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 12:05 pm

Aren’t those citation pads funny? There are many many uses for them besides holiday offenses. I have to look at some of the other ones.

    18. 11/06/2010 at 7:20 am

Perhaps they meant to recreate The Nightmare Before Christmas? :P

Last month I heard someone say they were preparing for their family Christmas dinner…in October! They just decided to do it early this year because not all the family could meet during Christmas. I mean that’s ok but why do you still call it a Christmas dinner?! Shouldn’t it be just a family dinner!

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 8:03 am

Exactly. It is more of a family dinner. You could get away with it if it was December but not in October.

    19. 11/06/2010 at 6:37 am

No, it winds him up like it does you. I don’t mind early Christmas decor, but he goes off on one if he sees it. Especially the stuff in stores. He’s very anti Christmas captialism.

I just like the pretty lights. :)

    20. 11/05/2010 at 10:22 pm

Go for it, issue away, I say, as I sit here and paint Christmas ornaments. When I read your title, I thought “Oh no, she’s getting me for being late with Musashi.”

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 8:02 am

You can paint ornaments … you can’t put them up though.

And I’m not an Evil Readalong Hostess!!!!! Jeesh! : )

    21. 11/05/2010 at 9:36 pm

I need that notepad. I have a co-worker who put up her Christmas decorations yesterday. We all gave her lots of shit.

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 8:01 am

As you rightfully should have done.

    22. 11/05/2010 at 9:16 pm

      WHAAAT?! Oh no they didn’t!

      • Jenners
        11/06/2010 at 8:01 am

        Oh yes they did!

    23. 11/05/2010 at 7:21 pm

Oh, Man. Christmas decorations should not go up, or even go on sale, until after Thanksgiving. There needs to be some order in the universe.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 7:51 pm

Order must be restored. Now how do we do that exactly?

    24. Kathleen
      11/05/2010 at 7:01 pm

Those same people will probably have the tree up in their window at the end of January!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 7:50 pm

I think so too! I’ll have to see if that is true.

    25. Emmy
      11/05/2010 at 6:49 pm

Okay that is just wrong. Even if they don’t celebrate Halloween that is still wrong on so many levels.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 7:50 pm

        I agree 100%!

    26. Amanda
      11/05/2010 at 5:27 pm

Oh that’s funny. My mom refuses to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Personally, I find the day after Thanksgiving, when everyone’s off work and school and I have no desire to do the whole black Friday stuff, a perfect day to decorate for Christmas!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 6:11 pm

We do it sometimes then too … but not before then!

    27. 11/05/2010 at 5:12 pm

It really bothers me when stores stock holiday items one holiday ahead. For example, sometimes I’ll be trying to get some Halloween decorations around Oct. 28 and all I can find are Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff. And also Christmas music playing too early – really bothers me. That’s pretty darn crazy!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 6:09 pm

I hear you … I heard Christmas carols in a store the other day and thought “Everyone is going to be so sick of this stuff soon and it won’t even be December.”

    28. 11/05/2010 at 4:50 pm

Oh most definitely anonymously would be better. Handing them out in person would have to be done with tack and for sure only to those that you know could handle the joke.

    29. 11/05/2010 at 4:44 pm

Note to self: Never let the Bear read this post.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 6:08 pm

Why??? Why???? Does he want to decorate for Christmas too early too?

    30. 11/05/2010 at 4:35 pm

Is that better or worse than people who leave their decorations up for months? I can’t decide.

I haven’t actually started shopping yet but I do start to make lists of what to buy my girls, because if I have a really good idea I have to write it down. I have been known to buy stuff early and then hide it so well I can’t find it when December comes! And I can understand crafty people who have to start early because that can take time if you make gifts or cards or whatever. I draw the line at trees though!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:39 pm

I’m OK with shopping early … but not with the decorating. Enough is enough.

    31. 11/05/2010 at 3:53 pm

Oh my gosh…how funny! I love your citation. I think I should purchase a pad to have on hand for fun! hehehe

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:39 pm

I think it would be hilarious … especially if you could leave them anonymously.

    32. 11/05/2010 at 3:47 pm

Maybe they never took the tree down last year and finally decided, “Hey it’s up anyway, we might as well turn the lights on since there’s so much other holiday decor out there right now” (assuming they never took off the decorations or the lights). Other than that they have no excuses. ;)

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:37 pm

I’m pretty sure they have no excuses.

    33. 11/05/2010 at 3:42 pm

Is that for real???? I mean, please. Who wants to be sick of Christmas before Thanksgiving? That’s what is going to start happening if they keep pushing Christmas on us so early. Jillian wants me to get a paper turkey to hang on our door, but she doesn’t want to take down the Halloween decorations. Watch I’ll be the house with the ghost, turkey and Santa on Christmas Eve. LOL. Maybe I should add a leprechaun to be ready for St. Pat’s?

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:30 pm

I know … we don’t take time to appreciate the holidays we are having now … they want us to rush rush rush and then it loses all its meaning.

    34. 11/05/2010 at 3:39 pm

Wrong, wrong, wrong. I just chucked the jack-o-lantern today and I certainly don’t plan on getting out the Christmas boxes until after Thanksgiving.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:29 pm

Well, obviously the difference is that you are sane and they are not.

    35. 11/05/2010 at 3:28 pm

*priceless!* i think you should go for the valentine’s day decorating and i’d like to see a picture of all three houses please, mmk? thanks! :) love the post and seriously stores? school supplies in july is bad enough!! :)

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 4:29 pm

Now if I can only get the house between mine and Christmas house to decorate for St. Patty’s day or something.

    36. 11/05/2010 at 3:04 pm

It’s way too early for that. Our town started putting up the Christmas decorations 2 weeks ago though. I think it’s overkill.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:14 pm

It is overkill. Why rush everything so much!?

    37. Aging Mommy
      11/05/2010 at 2:45 pm

That is ridiculous! Why would anyone want to have their tree up for over two months? I love those notepads!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:13 pm

I know … I wish them a rug full of pine needles!

    38. 11/05/2010 at 2:44 pm

That is crazy! Growing up my mom’s rule was no Christmas decorations or songs until after Thanksgiving. I like that rule. I love the notepad. I need to get one of those.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:13 pm

That is my rule too. And I need that notepad. I would be handing out citations left and right.

    39. 11/05/2010 at 2:29 pm

      weirdos.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:12 pm

        Exactly!

    40. 11/05/2010 at 2:22 pm

That is absolutely ridiculous, dressing up your house for Halloween. I can only think they dressed up their house as Christmas for Halloween and thought the holiday was close enough they could leave it up, because to decorate for Christmas at this early stage is just moronic.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:12 pm

Maybe it was part of an elaborate Halloween costume … early Christmas decorator morons!

    41. Bev
      11/05/2010 at 2:20 pm

Maybe, since the stores are turning the holidays into one big blur, we should just decorate our houses for EVERY holiday and leave it all up year-round! This would eliminate the head-ache of untangling all those lights every year and putting them up and taking them down. (You do realize I’m not serious, right?)

What is WRONG with people??? How can they possibly enjoy Christmas once it gets here. I’d be so friggin tired of looking at the decorations by Thanksgiving if I put mine up now.

I love the Citation pad, by the way!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:12 pm

I hear you. We don’t decorate until the beginning of December and I’m sick and tired of them by Christmas. We were thinking about waiting until the week before.

I bet those people leave them up way past January too.

    42. 11/05/2010 at 2:13 pm

Wait, you mean it’s NOT Christmas yet? But yesterday in Costco I could have SWORN it was Christmas! Are you suuuuuuure?

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:10 pm

It is Christmas in all retail establishments … but it SHOULD NOT BE IN PRIVATE HOMES! : )

    43. 11/05/2010 at 1:53 pm

I’m not going to lie, I listened to my first Christmas song today. The Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year’s season is my very favorite run of holidays, and I start early! (Um, but not before Halloween is over. That’s silly.) I love Thanksgiving, but I don’t really have Thanksgiving songs or decorations.

That being said, I listen to my Christmas songs in the car or at home, and they are really the only early celebrating I do. I do not decorate until much closer to Thanksgiving, and then only on a small scale. So, really, no one but me is affected by my jumping the Christmas gun!

I think the winter holidays have always been a source of such fond memories for me that I can’t resist stretching them out as long as possible. Just thinking about them puts me in such a good mood :-) I’ll be sure to keep my Christmas cheer away from you until the appropriate time, so I can avoid citations!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:10 pm

We went shopping at Kohls the other day and they were playing Christmas carols. It is hard for me to start getting into the holiday spirit until December. I’m glad you have such good memories of this time of year though! Enjoy it … and listen on your iPod! HAHA!

    44. Jen
      11/05/2010 at 12:33 pm

Avon just notified reps that consumers are shopping earlier now. The new Black Friday is the weeks following Halloween. Gifts are already in the brochures. Putting the tree up is a bit much, though.

You can also get a shit list. It’s my fave.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:08 pm

I’m OK with early shopping … not with early decorating.

    45. 11/05/2010 at 12:07 pm

Well, your photo was certainly clear enough that I could tell what it was…..and it frightened me!!

I’ll admit, I’m one of those that shops all year for Christmas gifts and even wraps them before Thanksgiving, but I really don’t like seeing home decorations until AFTER Thanksgiving.

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:08 pm

Exactly!!! You can shop all year round .. but no decorating until after Thanksgiving!!!

    46. 11/05/2010 at 11:31 am

Oh no – that’s awful! Far too early!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 3:06 pm

I know!! What is wrong with them!

    47. 11/05/2010 at 11:02 am

You have got to be kidding me? Hopefully it’s just because they never took it down last year, lol

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 11:20 am

No … we SAW them putting it up!!

    48. 11/05/2010 at 10:49 am

      That is just crazy.

    49. 11/05/2010 at 10:48 am

Wha?? Already a Christmas tree?? But we haven’t even hit Thanksgiving yet!! What is wrong with people!!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 11:20 am

I’m wondering the same thing. Maybe the Evil Spirit of Christmas Marketing claimed their minds.

    50. 11/05/2010 at 10:37 am

I thought it was crazy when I saw the store shelves stocked with Christmas wrapping paper and gift sets before Halloween, but this takes the cake! This citation is well deserved!

      • Jenners
        11/05/2010 at 11:19 am

Outrageous, isn’t it? What are they thinking???!!!
