The Happy Haul-idays Contest: If I Win, You Win!
by Jenners • 11/23/2010 • Blogging Experiences, Book Talk • 71 Comments
You might have seen the Happy Haul-idays Contest from Chronicle Books on a few blogs (I know I have), and I think it is a brilliant marketing idea as well as a really amazing contest. Here is the deal:
- Bloggers (like me) pick out $500 worth of books from Chronicle Books web site and list them on their blog.
- I then enter the post listing my books into the Happy Haul-idays entry form at Chronicle Books.
- If I am chosen as the winner, then I win the $500 worth of books I picked … and so does someone who left a comment on this post!!
How cool is that? It has been fun seeing what other bloggers picked out for their potential prizes, and I spent a heck of a lot of time poking around over at the Chronicle web site picking things for my own fantasy prize package, which came out to a total of $497.87. (Some of it would be gifts for family and friends and some it is for me … OK … MOST of it is for me but it was hard to resist some of this stuff.) So here is what I (and one lucky commenter on this post) will win if my blog is chosen as the winner of the contest. Be sure to leave a comment!

- Handy Dad $24.95

What a great list of books!
jowanjowan73(at)yahoo(dot)com
Wow please win! I seriously think I would cry if I won all these books!
happy_haylee_3(at)hotmail(dot)com
I’d freak if I won this contest too. Good luck to both of us.
great list! best of luck!
they have such great books – I am amazed how everyone seems to have a different collection selected! I love your choice of “Greetings from the Onion” – wish I had seen that one when I made my list!
Good luck!
I’ve enjoyed that aspect as well … seeing all the wildly different selections people came up with. It was like we were all at a different web site.
I got so lost in the cookbook section I see I missed some great titles!
I could see that happening … the cookbook section was pretty large!
Pick me, pick me!
Fun choices — though I’m not sure I wouldn’t immediately chuck the chore game.
Good luck to us!
No no no … the chores are for the KID!!! : )
Oh, thank god. I thought you were punishing yourself or something! Although I should have guessed from “Life’s Too Short to Fold Fitted Sheets” that the game wasn’t for you!
Hey! hope you win…nice list
I hope we both win
Awesome list. Very different–for the most part–from the ones I selected See My List Here but a really great and filled with books I would absolutely love to read.
Smiles,
Teresa
Thanks for the heads-up. I’d love to check out your list! Every post I’ve seen for this contest is so wildly different.
Nice selection of books that you chose there. I hope you win!
Terrific list of books! We have several of the same but then you have some I never saw on CB’s website! lol There are so many great ones to choose from!
Chronicle Books is hosting a wonderful contest!
My list post is up on my blog, too!
Good luck!

Ooohhh…I’ll have to check it out and enter YOUR giveaway too. I’m sure you have some books that I wish I’d found!
What an awesome idea. You’ve made some great and very “interesting” choices. Good luck
this *is* pure genius! good luck, lady!!
This was such a fun thing to do wasn’t it!?! I spend way too much time on their site and now, even if I don’t win, I’ll be giving a rather large wish list to the family for my birthday in April.
(If I don’t just buy them all myself).
Yay for another Onion lover out there.
Oh I like your books!! I also have McSweeny’s on my wishlist. Suuuper!
Great stuff here Jenners…I hope you win. Can never get enough of great books. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Here’s hoping for a win!! Good luck!

Books are the prize???? Count me in always! Wishing you tons of luck too Jenners. Happy Thanksgiving!!! Enjoy your turkey. Have some chocolate too (if you’re so inclined.) LOL.
OH!! I just viewed some of your items and I WANT THEM TOO!! Please do count me in, in the contest! GOOD LUCK!!
What great picks and a great contest! So hoping you win and me too
$500! Wow, I so desperately need new books to read. But sometimes I read so slowly (read distracted by kids house etc. etc.) that the three weeks I get from the library is just not enough.
Good luck!
This contest is totally fantastic, as are all the books that you have chosen! I would love to read some of these, and I truly hope that you win this awesome prize package!
that sounds like a win/win situation. I’m rooting for you. happy thanksgiving.
Thanks for the warning that you thought you might have managed to erase my comment – these things happen. I was just saying what a wonderful idea it was and how I wished you well. You are right, there doesn’t seem to be anything to say this is not open internationally so I may well enter. Good luck.
I love all the paper-y, stationery-y things you chose! And The Book of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks — that is one of my favorites
Hmm, interesting concept! It took me a while to decipher the 3 rules you listed (yes, yes, I’m a little slow today)… but I think I’ll go and take a look and see if there are any interesting books
Too bad I’m overseas and won’t qualify for the contest though… But I have a permanent address in the US! Does that count?
You had me salivating as soon as I read 500 dollars worth of books. WOW!
Are quotation marks ever really “unnecessary?” Fun contest.
I hope you win! That’s like Jenners heaven!
That’s pretty cool!
some very interesting pick.
throw my hat in the ring as well!
This is GENIUS. I love it. I’m intrigued by your selection. I don’t usually have the same tastes as, well, anyone…but most of those look really interesting. Well done, you.
That’s actually a lot of stuff! how fun would that be to win!!
Nice picks, I did the same thing on my blog. This is such a great contest!
I love it! I need to be included in this win win situation. Count me in. and good luck to us both.
I’m entering just for a chance to win the Life’s too short to fold fitted sheets book! Love all your picks!
Oh my gosh, this is just too wonderful! I hope you win all the books you picked!
Me too!
I love your choices! And the format of the post – very nice and colorful. Good luck. If you win, and feel guilty about the haul, I’ll be happy to share with you so you will feel better…
Aren’t they colorful? I had such a good time picking out books … though now I have serious case of the “I want thats!”
Ooo, free books! Good luck to you and to me through you! I would wish everyone else luck but I’m afraid it will cancel out my own luck and then throw the whole universe out of whack (and we can not have that!).
mommylebron {at} yahoo {dot} com
I think your comment made my head go out of whack! Good luck!
Great picks! Who wouldn’t love Greetings from the Onion?!
Oh I saw this contest, meant to enter and then got tied up with a 10-page report for school that somehow seemed more important (I don’t know how!). But you’ve chosen some awesome loot there kiddo! Best of luck to you (and now me)!
You still have time…
this does sound like fun
you picked some awesome books.
I love those “unnecessary” quotation marks!
I’d like to throw my hat (and my name) in the ring. I think I’d check out “You’re a Genius All the Time”. And The Boy would like “Everything Tastes Better with Bacon” (though I’m sure that involves time for me in the kitchen).
This is way off tangent but we recently tried chocolate covered bacon. Not as bad as you might thing.
Great picks! The Chore Board looks fun–if we had that maybe my kids would actually figure out how to help around the house. The Book of Unnecessary Quotation Marks looks good too. I’m not quite sure I would want those Fresh Brown “Eggs.”
I know … the “eggs” part cracked me up. : )
Where did my comment go? Oh well, try again. I am posting my 4 questions, 4 answers post tomorrow – if only I had included us winning this contest as my perfect day. The only question I have is is it international? It didn’t say anything on the Happt Hauliday site and sadly, for some reason or other, I wasn’t able to download their video. Good luck everyone, especially you Jenners as i would love to see you (and if not me than one of your followers) win.
I’m not sure if it is international or not. I didn’t see anything that excluded it per se so you might as well try. (And I’ve been messing with my blog just now so I probably screwed up your comment. Sorry.)
You don’t have to tell me twice…. Here’s my comment!! I’d LOVE to win!!! (me and five million other people)
I need to see about doing this myself. Guess I should check out those links you provided.
I WANT TO WIN THOSE BOOKS! I also want you to win. *crosses all digits*
Wow..I hope “we” win! What a great idea….wish I had done it on my blog! Good luck!

You still have time to do it!!!
I’ll happily jump on the band wagon for free books. And such a great prize amount, you can really stock up on books for that kind of money!
That’s so awesome, I may need to do it on my Blog, too!
Count me in! Now maybe I should try to create my own post and we’ll have twice as many chances at winning!
Good luck!
Yes … go do it! The only real downside is that I began to covet everything on my list and now I’ll be crushed if I don’t win!
