Each week, Lisa from Writing in the Buff posts a new photo, which participants pretend is the cover of a fake book. We then write a 150-word blurb based on the photo that “is so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.” This week’s photo just screamed “YA paranormal romance” at me so here goes. (And I swear I didn’t start out with this idea in mind. It just happened as I was writing and I went with it.)
His Cold Hands by Bethany Flyer
One heart pounds with the drum beat of young love. The other heart has been still for centuries….
When beautiful and sensitive Carmella moves to Sporks, Washington, she wonders if she’ll fit in at the local high school. But when she finds a red flower leaning against a tree in her backyard each morning, she suspects she already has a secret admirer. Could is possibly be the brooding but gorgeous Howard Sullen, even though he seems like he always has a raging eye infection? Or could it be the hunky, muscled Wakeup Plaque, who looks at her wolfishly? In this pulse-pounding tale of forbidden love, Bethany Flyer imagines a romance for the ages … as long as Carmella is willing take a bite out of life.
“Is this a joke? You really want me to write a blurb for this? I think I’ll contact my lawyer instead.” –Stephanie Meyer, author of Twilight and New Moon

I love the names, I would love the see the sullen-gorgeous combo but the thought of Wakeup Plaque and wolfish creeps me out! I do want to know who gets on with whom…
Well, if you read the Twilight books, you’ll know that “Carmella” ends up with “Howard” and not “Wakeup.” : )
the pink eye reference made me choke on my coffee!!
Oh sorry about that.
What a fun idea! Love what you did with it of course, lol.
It is such a fun thing to do. I’m really enjoying it.
Well I haven’t read the Twilight series so I don’t get the inside joke of this one but the book blurb is hilarious nonetheless!
I’m glad it was amusing even if you didn’t read Twilight!
Oh, how I enjoyed reading about Howard Sullen of Sporks!
He makes all the girls swoon and feel lightheaded…as if from blood loss.
This was a delightfully fun blurb to read. I’d go for the one with a raging eye infection. Pus and pink eyes are sooo attractive!
I myself have a thing for pinkeye.
Lol! Love it…though it really made me want to read Twilight again
Hmmm…I wonder why?
LOL. I nearly spat out my coffee. Genius!
Stop by my blog on Monday, my A to Z post plays on Twilight!
Ellie Garratt
Oh … how fun. I love stuff that plays with the glorious guilty pleasure that is Twilight.
Your names made me giggle…and even though I’m not familiar with Twilight (book or movie) I thought your names were hilarious!
Wakeup Plaque? Too funny!
My fake names are uncannily spot-on to the real ones. It is really hard to rhyme Jacob though.
That was a hoot. I thought it was sounding familiar and then the line at the end- HA.
I’m awaiting the real Ms. Meyers to contact me now. : )
*bwahahahah* I’m serious, you could make a career of this.
If you could just talk to the powers that be, I’m glad to make a career switch. : )
eye infection indeed. Love it. You need to find out if there is such a job, you’d do well, and you wouldn’t have to clean anymore.
It would be an amazing job indeed.
Sporks! Good one.
That one just wrote itself. : )
OMG..you certainly have a vivid imagination and way with words…too funny.
My imagination has always been a blessing and curse.
LOL that was very clever…as usual.
I tell you, this one almost wrote itself.
Sounds like you had a ball writing this one!!!!
I did … it was a kick.
LMAO! I don’t have anything else to say. Thanks
You’re welcome.
Sporks? *snicker*
It was awesome when that came to mind. ; )
Look out, vampires, werewolves, and zombies, Carmella’s in town!
And she’s STAKING her claim. (OK … that was lame.)
Great character names! So funny with all the imagery too. You’re really good at blurb writing. Now wouldn’t that be an interesting career…
It would be an awesome job I think. I can dream.
Raging eye infection? LOL! Too funny this week…
It was a hoot. I loved all the diversity of the takes on this week’s cover.
Oh. My. Gosh. Hehehehehe…!!!! This is hilarious! I chortled the whole way through. Inspired, that’s what this is. Brilliant blurb.
I love the word chortled! You don’t hear it enough.
Ahahhha!! I love the Stephanie Meyer comment!
Tell me….does Howard make your heart race and your blood boil as much as Edward does??
Almost…but not quite. Edward is a bit sexier than Howard.
I love the names you came up with!
It was fun to do.
Wow! You have me wondering who her admirer will be. I kind of hope that it isn’t the guy with the raging eye infection though. It might be contagious, lol.
Thanks for stopping by to see me, and have a wonderful weekend!
Kathy M.
Thanks for the return visit as well!
Another script for Mills and Boon, I think:-)
Had to Google Mills and Boon but now I get it! : )
The forbidden love sounds fascinating! I’d definitely read it if you write it
Oh you could just read Stephenie Meyer’s version … I know it is better than what I could write! : )
Ahhh, forbidden romance will get me everytime! Fun blurb.
What good is romance if it isn’t forbidden?
Note to self – don’t take a drink before reading. Good thing I was able to turn my head quick. The table got sprayed instead of the screen.
I will not be held responsible for any damages to electronics that occur by spewing drinks while reading my posts. I think I have a waiver somewhere. : )
This is a fun idea. Thanks for pointing it out out to me. I’m going over to the site to check it out further. You may see future posts from me….
Oh it is such a fun meme!!!! I hope you play along! This is my second week doing it and it is a great way to combine my desire to write with my love of books.
Excellent! But Howard? A little too normal of a name…
It was hard to rhyme “Edward” with anything … Howard was the best I could come up with–especially after the debacle of Wakeup Plaque.
What great character names. AND I love the idea of a pulse-pounding tale.
Of course, the pulse part will cease pounding at some point…
Howard Sullen with a raging eye infection and wolifsh look made me laugh out loud. You’re good.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best laugh I’ve had all week!
Good to hear!
Jenners, you rock. I love this made up book blurb, particularly the bit about the eye infection.
Can’t you just see Edwards (I mean HOWARD) explaining his red eyes to an eye infection?
Wolfish looks versus a “raging eye infection?” – no contest – but I’d like to have all the details of when and how please.
Well, if you read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, you’ll get the whole thing! HAHA!
