• Some Randomness, Art And A Poll

Since it is my duty to chronicle my life and inform you about my own stupidity, wacky projects and mundane happenings, I feel compelled to share the following with you.

    • Wacky Project. I have decided to reassemble and build all the Lego sets that the Little One has ever received. Keep in mind that, for the most part, the sets are scattered all over the place in the very big Lego pile that we have. (However, the Legos are sorted by color now … thanks to several hours of effort on my part.) So far, I’ve managed to put together six different sets. Only 15 or 20 to go! (Considering the cost of Lego sets, I’m realizing that we may have his entire college tuition in Lego sets!!)
    • My Stupidity. I thought flash mobs only did dancing. Mr. Jenners was telling me about a flash mob that attacked a man near where he works. And I naively said, “They attacked him with their dancing???!!!” Duh.
    • Cold Stone Creamery. Why did I never feel compelled to explore this ice cream concept before our recent trip to Montana? Ice cream … mixed with all the stuff you want. Brilliant!! I’m converted!

    • Swimming Is Freakin’ Hard. This summer, we joined the township pool for the first time. Mr. Jenners and I have been trying to “swim laps” when we visit. (I put “swim laps” in quotes because we count one length of the pool as a lap and end each lap by hanging on the end of the pool and gasping for breath.) Swimming kicks my butt.

    • What To Do About The Gray? Gray hair is overtaking me more and more each day. A decision must be made: To dye or not to dye? Please vote in the poll below to help me decide what to do.

      And now for the art!

      I Made This!

Is the art a sculpture of you “doing laps” at the pool? :)

Re: the dreaded grey! If you can tolerate it, keep it natural. I cannot, but my sister pulls it off with panache.

      • 08/11/2011 at 4:47 pm

I’m not sure I can pull ANYTHING off with panache.

      • 08/11/2011 at 4:49 pm

I don’t pull off anything with panache!

    2. 08/07/2011 at 10:02 am

I should definitely always visit your blog regardless of how scary the number of unread items I have in my rss reader :) You always make me smile when I stop by.

That’s a lot of lego sets you own! I’m just glad that we don’t own any because I don’t know if my sanity can handle adding legos to my already messy apartment littered with stickers on every available surface!

And that little art project, is that made of clay? And is it something you made on your trip? :)

      • 08/07/2011 at 9:30 pm

I’m happy to put a smile on your face. I try!
And that little figure is this thing called a Blank manufactured by Roseart. You get two in a pack — along with markers and stickers to decorate them. They are plastic. They were a lot of fun to decorate. The Little One’s (titled “Fire head”) is still a work in progress.

    3. 08/06/2011 at 11:37 pm

I was so glad when my kids got tired of Lego sets, I gave them all away. Except the stuff my son built, (mostly Bionicles) I saved.
That’s a cute little thing you made!

      • 08/07/2011 at 9:28 pm

Gave them away? You could have made some serious money I think!

    4. 08/06/2011 at 7:21 pm

Do not dye your hair. Once you go down that road, forever will it dominate your destiny. I am completely gray and will be 40 next month. I actually get compliments from guys about it on a regular basis. Women dye their hair for other women, just like they dress for other women. I think you have seen a picture of me, but if not, here: http://www.danahuff.net/?page_id=2.

      • 08/06/2011 at 7:53 pm

I like how you think!!! Who am I doing this for? Mr. Jenners will love me no matter what. I love your boldness and braveness!!

    5. 08/05/2011 at 1:50 pm

Swimming is SOOO hard! I used to be so good at it, and now I feel like I am BARELY not drowning!

Also, that is an impressive little…person. I’m assuming it was an art project for the little one?

      • 08/05/2011 at 6:15 pm

Swimming is hard. Much harder than I anticipated. Nothing has left me as tired and breathless.
And those little people are called Blanks. You should check them out … Joseph could make his own super hero! They give you two little plastic people and stickers and markers to decorate them with. The Little One is working on a superhero called Firehead but it is slow going.

I have the gray hair encroaching problem, too, right in front where my bangs are and I cannot decide what to do.

Cold Stone ice cream is sooooooo good…have you tried the Birthday Cake Remix?!

I have no idea what flash dance mobs are.

Is there a specific reason you’re doing the Legos project? I love Legos but the project sounds a little daunting! Good luck!

Adorable interesting art work….is she supposed to resemble anyone in particular?

      • 08/05/2011 at 8:14 am

I need to try the Birthday Cake Remix … I just can’t quit the chocolate one yet!!!
And flash dance mobs are when big groups of people coordinate a dance and then “spontaneously” perform it in a public place at a specified time. Or so I’ve heard.
The inspiration for the Lego project is that my brother in Montana has a whole room of Lego sets that he’s put together and it was really neat so we decided to replicate it. (Or I did as the Little One could care less because he isn’t “into” Legos right now.)
And the Little Lady is how all my people end up looking!!

    7. 08/04/2011 at 11:40 am

I’ve decided, you should definitely dye your hair. :) Seriously now, go for it. Just make sure you pick a color you like and have fun. I want to see a pic of course. :)

      • 08/05/2011 at 8:10 am

I love your assertiveness!! Do it…and show me the results! I should do a before and after thing.

    8. 08/04/2011 at 10:50 am

I’m so jealous that the little one would let you sort the legos by color. I’ve been trying to convince my boys for a very long time that it would make it easier for them to find what they’re looking for. Ugh!

Cold Stone is heavenly. I love getting the chocolate ice cream and getting the brownies mix-in. Mmmm…I was back in the States a couple of weeks ago, and I can’t believe I forgot to go to Cold Stone. :(

      • 08/05/2011 at 8:09 am

I picked the same flavor — chocolate with the brownies AND fudge AND chocolate chips. Perfect for a chocoholic!!! I’m sorry you didn’t remember to go. : (
And others have told me that sorting your Legos too much might stifle creativity so let them have their pile. (But if I’m the one building, I want it sorted!!!!)

    9. 08/04/2011 at 7:10 am

I’ve been having my hair colored for about 15 years. It does make me look lots younger than I am (so they say). My mom was very gray at 40 and she never colored her hair, and although she had beautiful skin her gray hair made her look old……so I say COLOR!

(Wait until you grown peach fuzz after menopause – you are in for a treat:)

      • 08/05/2011 at 7:52 am

I love your definitive take on the hair coloring thing.
        And peach fuzz?????!!!! Oh Lord.

    10. 08/03/2011 at 11:40 pm

I LOVE the artwork! And to quote my mother, “It sure is exquisite, but what the heck is it?”

Between the artwork and the new Lego obsession, I’m a little concerned about you. How long until Little One goes to school?

And, heck yes, dye your hair. Then when you have moments like the flash mob incident, you can blame it on the dye that seeped through your hair roots into your brain. Been working for me for years.

      • 08/05/2011 at 7:50 am

The “art” is a thing called a Blank — little plastic “people” that you can decorate. I got a pack for the Little One and he did one and I did one. They were kind of fun actually!
And I still have another month before school starts … I am losing my mind!!!!

    11. 08/03/2011 at 11:20 pm

You cracked me up Jenners! Great random post! I love the art project!lols I voted for to dye your hair. However, it’s still all up to you in the end. I hope the saying follow your heart can be apply here.:)

      • 08/05/2011 at 8:18 am

My heart wants the gray gone without me having to do anything about it. Sigh.

    12. 08/03/2011 at 10:44 pm

Well, I don’t know what to tell you about your gray….You have short hair, so it might be harder to keep up with…I have more gray hair than I think I do. It shows up big time in the sunlight. My mom and sister both point it out to me and laugh whenever they notice it. I am going to go with my gray, just because I think it would be neat to have gray hair. Doesn’t wisdom come with gray hair?

I love any kind of ice cream at all. Coldstone must be similar to Marble Slab, that is what we have here.

We don’t have any legos at all, whatsoever….I wonder if mine would even be interested or if that is for a little bit older kids.

I am glad you are having such a wonderful summer. Your trip to Montana sounded great. :)

      • 08/05/2011 at 7:49 am

I do think short hair helps to show the gray faster … and make keeping up with it more of a pain. I like your idea about wisdom.
And a no Lego house, huh? Maybe Legos are a boy thing … though I have seen a few “girl” sets.

    13. 08/03/2011 at 8:06 pm

I started coloring my hair a few years ago and it is pain to keep up, but I’m too young to be gray — I need to counteract my wrinkles and the bags under my eyes. My hair is my only vanity left!!!

But I support your decision either way.

BTW — Cold Stone’s cheesecake ice cream is amazing. And I laughed out loud at your flash mob comment, just because I probably would have said the same thing. Flash mobs should only be fun, otherwise they’re just mobs.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:35 pm

I think your point about the flash mobs is right on!! It is just a plain mob if they are doing other stuff. I need to point that out to my husband. He acted like I was total idiot and now I realize it might be HIM who is the idiot.
And I am really wishy-washy on the gray issue so that is why I created the poll — but the results are running 50/50 so it isn’t very helpful!

    14. 08/03/2011 at 7:27 pm

I think we could have paid for two children’s tuition in Lego.

And swimming kicks my ass too.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:33 pm

But what a lovely ass it is!! : ) (Please don’t take that wrong way.)

      08/03/2011 at 5:58 pm

You had never been to a coldstone?? So good huh? I bought one of those rubbermaid roolimg storage drawer things with about six drawers and Lucas Legos are sorted- a red/white drawer, blue/green, misc small parts, big parts, etc.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:33 pm

I like your storage idea! I’ve been storing them in plastic bags. You’re so organized!

      08/03/2011 at 5:48 pm

I too have that Lego dream of reconstructing all my sons Legos. Someday……

I too, have that wiry kinky gray but am afraid to dye for fear of what will sprout when I can’t see it, so for now, I just deal with it!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:28 pm

I’m glad I’m not the only mom who dreams of reconstructing Lego sets!!! : )

      08/03/2011 at 4:35 pm

I get my hair regularly highlighted so the lighter strands mask that half my head is gray. However, in the effort to cover them up lately, I’ve been having to add more light than dark and it’s sort of looking gray anyway, so after my next appt, I may just give up.

The problem for me is that the gray hairs are a totally different texture than the other hairs. Why is that? I like gray, but wiry, witchy gray is not something I am going for.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:28 pm

I know what you mean!!! And sometimes I have white hairs that are really really stiff. The whole keeping up with it is what gets me down. I just want to give up.

    18. 08/03/2011 at 3:49 pm

Does the Little One know you are raiding his Legoes? That must be some impressive feat, to recreate all the kits. Will they be placed on pedestals around your home? Or are you dismantling them as soon as they are complete? There is no way I will ever stop dying my hair. I would look like a skunk if I did. And the Pepe le Pew look is so not me! I think that you are bored, Miss Jen. Am I right? But I do love your version of laps. Do a few for me, will ya?
      Enjoy the day!
      Erin
(who hasn’t seen the light of day in three years much less a swimming pool)

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:27 pm

The Little One is totally on board with the Lego project … he just doesn’t want to help me. He likes playing with the mini figures. The idea is to leave them all together and “display” them (in the basement). Then, if he ever wants to build them, the kit will be in one place. We were inspired by my brother who has a whole “Lego Lab” in his house.

    19. 08/03/2011 at 3:44 pm

Swimming is hard, but is really good on our old joints! (aka, no more running for Sandy) Only the Lord God knows the real color of my hair. Well, Him and my hairdresser. Color the grey with the help of your hairdresser. You do not want to be a slave to the Loreal hair color. You can let it go grey when you are…let’s say, 65?

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:25 pm

I love how light and graceful I feel when I swim … even though Mr. Jenners says I don’t look quite as good as I think I do! : )

    20. 08/03/2011 at 3:34 pm

on the wacky project–once when the boy was about 7 I bought him a fishing tackle box and sorted all his legos into slots by shape and the number of connectors on the piece. he quit playing with them until he finally got up the courage to ask me if we could just dump them into the big tub again. It totally destroyed his sense of creativity to have it all organized. But hey have fun building those things. I no longer own any legos! I got sick of all the little pieces–everywhere!

I’m stupid too–I have no idea what you are talking about

cold stone creamery–too good for words

swimming is fun–I feel kind of weightless. but i swim with flippers and a mask. makes those laps much easier but still gives a good work out

      embrace the grey

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:18 pm

What an interesting story about the Legos!!! I wouldn’t push my organization on the Little One … but he wants nothing to do with this project so I’ll do it my way. : )
I think I actually want to embrace the gray but need to work up to it.

    21. 08/03/2011 at 3:08 pm

I also had no idea that flash mobs randomly assembled to beat people up! That just seems like the weirdest thing to me! I like the idea of building all the lego sets. My teenage son still builds all kinds of weird things with his legos, like swords that can be attached to your arm and stuff like that. I also like the little person that you created. Very cool!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:15 pm

It is good to hear that older kids still play with Legos too. I do think they are an awesome toy that can grow with the child. Right now, the Little One is mostly into the mini figures!!!

    22. 08/03/2011 at 1:55 pm

If you haven’t tried the Mud Pie at Cold Stone Creamery, you must! If you like coffee ice cream, that is. Which I do. Along with all the other good stuff they mix in.

Also, hell yes on the dye job. I’ve been coloring my hair for years…I need a partner in crime. :-D

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:13 pm

I’m actually not a big fan of coffee ice cream. … but anything called Mud Pie sounds good. Maybe I could change the ice cream flavor. And I just may join you in your dyeing!

    23. 08/03/2011 at 10:38 am

Going to the salon to get my hair colored every 5 weeks is just about the only thing I splurge on for myself (well that, and buying magazines and books all the time).

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:12 pm

If it came down to dyeing hair or buying books, then I’m going gray!!!!

    24. 08/03/2011 at 9:40 am

I have most of my boys lego thingys put together in storage and I am going to gift them to their children. A lot of extra pieces are left over as well. My plan is to take them apart with the future grandkids and leave them scattered all over the place. I have a few other devious plots up my sleeve as well! ;o)

I started going gray in my late 20′s and now at 50 am totally white, if I did not color my hair. Color is your best friend I say! I even paid for my daughter to go to cos school so she could cover the gray she caused for the rest of my life. No, really she wanted to go and it has worked out well for my wallet. She now teaches it and tells that story to her new class of students.

I walk (as well as swim) in my pool and it is a work out.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:12 pm

Hmmmm…I think I see a future in hairstyling for the Little One. I love it!!!
And I think you will be a very devious (but fun) grandma!

    25. 08/03/2011 at 7:50 am

Can’t you bribe the kids to sort the lego out for you?! I’d pitch it as a special challenge involving prizes – it would save you a lot of time! I won’t mock you though – I’ve probably got just as many lego sets as you :-)

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:10 pm

Everyone in the family was all gung-ho to help me with my little Lego project at first. Then they all drifted away and lost interest so I labor on alone.

    26. 08/03/2011 at 6:52 am

Where in the world are you going to put all of those completed Lego sets? You are crazy, woman!

Coldstone Creamery is really good, isn’t it? I love their pumpkin ice cream and graham cracker crumbs. YUM!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:09 pm

I’m envisioning some shelves in the basement to house the Legos. We’ll see! : )
And I don’t remember seeing the pumpkin/graham cracker crumbs option … I’ll have to look for it!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:11 pm

I”m planning to store them in the basement on shelves. We’ll see what Mr. Jenners says. You may have identified the weak point of my plan. And I don’t remember seeing that flavor when I was at CSC — I’ll have to look for it.

    27. 08/03/2011 at 2:25 am

OK – love that weird marshmallow bikini person! Is this a recent work of art? ;-)

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:08 pm

Yup … just made it this week. They are part of this cute little art kit called Blanks. The Little One is working on his but taking FOREVER!

    28. 08/03/2011 at 1:30 am

ditch the gray, woman! you’re too young for it. :) i’ve been helping my disappear since 2007 and wouldn’t dream of letting it ‘shine through’. as for the lego sets…well, if you have that kind of time on your hands, why don’t you come over and help me organize my basement? it’s more fun and i’ll make lunch!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:08 pm

I actually don’t have the time do put together the Lego sets … but it beats cleaning the bathroom or something!!! HAHA!

    29. 08/03/2011 at 12:38 am

Oh, I love your sense of humour, that’s one of the reasons I come back to your blog. :)
To dye or not to dye, lol. I can’t choose any of the poll options. It’s entirely up to you. How do you feel about that?

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:07 pm

I don’t know how I feel about it … that is why I did the poll! But so far, the votes are 50/50 so I don’t think I’ll get any help!! ARGH! : )

    30. 08/03/2011 at 12:31 am

How ’bout highlights, they kinda look like grey streaks anyway.

Love the Lego you – I totally see the resemblance. You’re rockin’ the two piece! But your jaundiced skin color is a bit disturbing.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:07 pm

I’d NEVER be caught dead in a two-piece bathing suit … even if my head WAS shaped like a marshmallow. And I’ve been using the “highlighting” excuse for some time now. I’m not sure it is working.

    31. 08/03/2011 at 12:18 am

OK, my vote is not on your poll. Temporary dye is the way to go, it doesn’t grow out, it fades, that way if you’re not in the mood to die it, you just go natural for a while. That is what I do.

So I too, thought flash mobs were nice things only, sad that one was so bad.

Cold Stone – big meh, so expensive for the really good stuff so we eschew.

      • 08/03/2011 at 12:18 am

“DYE” it, not “die” it. Sorry.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:06 pm

That is kind of what I’m doing now … temporary dyeing and then quitting. I wish I could make it permanent and make my hair stop growing. Is that possible!! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who was misguided about flash mobs.

    32. 08/03/2011 at 12:10 am

Loving the Lego challenge. We have so many, many legos – T Rex Dad has continued collecting them even into adulthood. I might have to take your lead with the whole college tuition thing.

      Love the art.

And I could not vote. I did not like any of the options. I’d go with “D” – invent the anti-aging gene and stop gray completely. By the way – is it gray or grey? What’s the difference? Did I miss that one in school?

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:05 pm

Hey … you have a medical background — start working on that anti-aging thing STAT! And my brother (who is 40) is totally into collecting Legos. He has a whole room filled with his completed models. That is what inspired me to do this I think!

    33. 08/02/2011 at 11:16 pm

You have so much more patience than I have, sorting the legos and building the sets. Cold Stone Creamery rocks! My favorite is the German Chocolate Cake. We had one right next to our hotel in Honolulu, and if it wasn’t for the other unhealthy desserts we had (like from the Cheesecake factory) we would have eaten there every night. It’s no wonder I gained weight!

I think it would be cool if you did something fun to dye your hair. I’m way too intimidated to do it myself (since I tried once and learned that I have white hair, not grey, and it’s very resistant to coloring).

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:04 pm

I’ve had unfortunately dyeing incidents myself … including getting drips on the floor that didn’t wash out!! Oops! I just can’t imagine PAYING for it to be done professionally though.
And I fell in love with Coldstone Creamery’s Chocolate Devotion. Oh how I want one RIGHT NOW!

    34. 08/02/2011 at 10:45 pm

I cast my vote, but I am biased. I’ve been dyeing my hair since my 20′s when I inherited my grandmother’s gray streak. Now that streak has pretty much taken over :) Choosing colors can be fun and the Little One can help.
I had no idea that there were now evil flash mobs!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:03 pm

Hmmmm…I’ve always wondered what I’d look like as a redhead!

    35. 08/02/2011 at 10:18 pm

Some random thoughts on your randomness. Dye your hair. Stop being lazy. God wouldnt have let them develop a formula if he didnt want you to use it.

      Your art project is awesome.

Flash mobs attack people? That just sucks.

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:02 pm

I love that your opinion on the dyeing of the hair was so unequivocal and sure. Thanks!

    36. 08/02/2011 at 9:48 pm

Great random post, Jenners! I recently discovered Pinkberry–which I love!

      • 08/03/2011 at 8:02 pm

I’ve never had a Pinkberry. I need to find one and check it out!

You crack me up. You do know that when I’m at my computer laughing my family knows I’m reading your post. Well I had to tell them they were looking at me funny. I dye my hair. I started to let it go, and then when I looked in the mirror didn’t like what I say. The lego, good for you my eldest son has his lego stored that way, my youngest is all confused, and the pirates are wearing space helmets and the like. I didn’t do all of my eldest he did most of them, but then again that’s how he played with them, not the youngest, if I were a therapist, I’d have guessed the eldest was doing the math thing, and the youngest is the creative one. Don’t know which personality will be of use to me in my OLD years. Love your art.

My son adores mixing up the Lego mini figures so they have “wrong” heads and bodies. I kind of got into it too. They are so mixed up now that I don’t think we could ever get them back together.

Aahaha wow, didn’t know I’d ever laugh at “flash mobs” but there I went!

I’m glad I was able to help you do something you didn’t expect … no matter how silly it was. ; )

      Embrace the gray!

I’m not big on ice cream, but they make wonderful malts and milkshakes!!

Just wondering… What is your artwork made from? Is that some new-fangled Lego you can decorate yourself?

I love your choice to embrace the gray. I think I am leaning that way. But then I look in the mirror some days…
That little artwork thing is this new kids art thing called a “Blank.” You get these little plastic people that you can decorate. The Little One is still working on his — tentatively titled “Firehead.”

You must have a lot of time on your hands! LOL I’m not the right person to vote in your poll since I’ve never dyed my hair and it’s half gray.

I actually DON’T have all that much time on my hands … which is was makes it all the more ridiculous to spend my time building Lego sets. Of course, I do that instead of pretending to be an animal — a game that drives me bonkers!
