Although we may be the last school district in the United States to do so, school finally starts tomorrow!! To say that I am excited beyond belief is an understatement. I am ecstatic! With the start of school, I am able to:

    • resume regular housekeeping activities without constant interruptions and whiny pleas of “When you will be done so you can play with me????”
    • begin walking (briskly) for 45 minutes a day while listening to an audiobook and without having to walk at a curious child’s pace (which burns fewer calories) and without non-stop chatter about Ben 10, Star Wars and animals.
    • run errands without a whiny and unwilling companion
    • possible pockets of downtime to READ and BLOG without “When will you be done, Mommy?”

In short, I’m getting my life back! I couldn’t be happier. Although I love you dearly, Little One, I think we were both getting tired of our constant togetherness during the summer. After all, how can you miss someone if you are ALWAYS with them!?

Too funny! I’m already thinking fondly and wistfully of preschool :)

I know what you mean, totally adore my bubs but sometimes…..I just stopped counting to 100 sat down and stumbled across your post…your honesty is refreshing

      • 09/09/2011 at 12:44 pm

Some days I feel like I need to count to 1000. : )

    3. 09/07/2011 at 11:58 pm

Forty five minute walks? I’m impressed. I walk twice a day but only about 20 minutes each time and sometimes that second walk is more about 15 minutes.

      • 09/09/2011 at 1:25 pm

45 minutes is my goal … and I meet it most days but it isn’t hard and fast. I was doing 30 minutes last school year and thought I should increase it this year. I’m easing into it though because I didn’t walk all summer due to the presence of a slow-walking child! I’ll need to do better next summer and not lose my momentum. But hey … at least you are walking!

Oh man! I’m sorry Ive been neglecting you over here! :) Wahooo! Is right! Although now I’m the crazy one, since I now have a 3 year old to occupy my time while Princess Nagger is in school…and the rest of the 24/7 mode for the next two years before *he* starts school. Nothing like hitting the ‘pause’ button the wrong way! ;) Enjoy your ‘me’ time during school hours! :)

      • 09/09/2011 at 1:24 pm

I’ve been out of touch too … I need to find about this 3-year-old you have while PN is in school!!!!! Last I remember reading, I didn’t know you had a 3-year-old waiting in the wings. I’ll be over to get caught up soon!

    5. 09/07/2011 at 10:00 am

too much togetherness is not a good thing. ya know what they say..absence makes the heart grow fonder.

      • 09/07/2011 at 8:03 pm

We have already experienced that! I’m good to play and “hang out” for 2 to 3 hours … but 12 hours each day is a bit much. We’re all back in balance again and it is great.

    6. 09/06/2011 at 9:23 pm

You kill me! I love the honesty. :)

      • 09/07/2011 at 8:03 pm

If any stay-at-home mom says she isn’t thrilled with the start of school, I suspect she is lying!

    7. 09/06/2011 at 9:22 pm

Too funny :) I’m just glad that school in Japan are mostly year round (at least it seems that way). Wow, you guys really are the last ones going back to school. It felt like everyone else who has school-age children started school 2 weeks ago. Well, at least the school year for you ends later than everyone else, right?

Hurray for getting your “me” time back though!

      • 09/07/2011 at 8:02 pm

Hmmmmm…you are making a very strong case for relocating to Japan. However, the whole earthquake thing you experienced gives me pause. Plus the language barrier.

    8. 09/06/2011 at 8:42 pm

Yes it really is good to have a bit of a break from those we love- for everyone’s sake. And that is a late start, we have been in school for a month now!

      • 09/07/2011 at 8:02 pm

I’ve been really jealous of all you “been in school for a month” folks!! Now I get to join you. But I guess you’ll feel that way in June when we’re still in school and you’re not!

    9. 09/06/2011 at 3:39 pm

Yay for school finally starting! I know all of you stay at home moms are celebrating today. You work so hard and you deserve a break!

      • 09/06/2011 at 8:35 pm

The start of the school year is like a national holiday for stay-at-home moms!

    10. 09/06/2011 at 11:10 am

That last sentence reminds me of a keychain I had in high school: “How can I miss you if you won’t go away?” Enjoy all your new free time — it sounds like you plan to!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:44 pm

Love that keychain! It rings very very true.

    11. 09/06/2011 at 10:06 am

Mine started school today too. Summer flew right by!
Now there’s no more of my two (a teen and a tween) calling me at work to complain about each other throughout the day…lol.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:44 pm

Ha! I’m sure your work productivity will increase by 45%.

    12. 09/06/2011 at 8:21 am

Yours is not the last school district in the US to go back to school. Mine is. Not until tomorrow. :-)

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:43 pm

I guess I do have something going for me then. I’ve been reading so many blogs where the kids started school a few weeks ago and I’ve been so envious!

    13. 09/06/2011 at 8:10 am

After all this time visiting my blogger buddies from over the pond and I still get confused when I see the month written before the date.

Yes, all of our schools returned today.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:43 pm

I’m sure that is confusing!! I never thought about that. I get confused the other way around so we’re even.

    14. 09/06/2011 at 6:33 am

I agree, the beginning of the school year is such a time of excitement and freedom for me. No hounding about what is and is not in the refrigerator, teenagers fighting and arguing with each other, and plaintive cries of, “I’m bored”. I can so see why this is such a good time for a stay-at -home mom

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:42 pm

The school year is the BEST time for a stay-at-home mom. You just get that much needed break. And I was getting the “I”m boooorrrred” thing about two weeks ago. It was driving me nuts … though I remember doing it myself when I was a kid. Life is truly a circle.

    15. 09/06/2011 at 6:27 am

I think you should run around naked just because you can

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:41 pm

All righty … I’ll do that. Get ready for a rather unpleasant vlog! HAHA!

    16. 09/06/2011 at 2:23 am

My son’s school starts today. The only problem is that my younger son doesn’t start for another 3 weeks. Enjoy your extra freedom – I’ll celebrate with you in about a month’s time!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:41 pm

Awwww…my sympathies on having another three weeks to go!

    17. 09/06/2011 at 1:49 am

Yep, they leave you and come to ME!!! 33 little bugs (well okay, they are 10 in 4th grade so they are not entirely helpless but the chatter doesn’t stop!) I must admit I am not quite as happy as you that school is in session. I love my job, but I am always ready for a weekend AND my summer vacation. Enjoy your relative peace and quiet. How lucky you are that you are still the center of his world. It will change sooner than you know. Happy September to you!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:45 pm

We live in opposite worlds!! Your world gets louder and more crazy and mine gets quieter and calmer. Thanks for doing what you do!!!

    18. 09/06/2011 at 1:31 am

I’ll admit that after two days of getting things done finally last week, I spent the third day sleeping in until 1:30pm. There. I’ve admitted it. It was awesome. This week is going to be better. :)

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:40 pm

I like your style. Now that Mr. Jenners is working at home so much, I don’t think I can pull off that sleeping until 1:30 thing–though I would LOVE it.

    19. 09/05/2011 at 11:48 pm

      Ah – enjoy the peace!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:40 pm

        Sweet sweet peace and quiet.

    20. 09/05/2011 at 10:51 pm

We live parallel lives! :) Today I was on the treadmill and my oldest son yells at me so loud I’m sure someone has seriously injured himself. I whip off my headphones, stop the treadmill, turn around and see him jumping up and down saying, “A Phineas and Ferb special is on!” Then we had a talk about when it’s appropriate to scare mom witless on the treadmill.

And earlier today my youngest talked for about an hour straight without a break while I was folding clothes and “watching” a show. My husband was listening from the other room and said, “I didn’t think he stopped to take a breath.”

I’m very very excited about tomorrow!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:39 pm

Too funny! Everything the Little One does is at high volume. Like ear-splitting volume. And he doesn’t stop to breathe either. It is uncanny really. I’m so glad your freedom is coming back too!!! Woo hoo!

    21. 09/05/2011 at 10:25 pm

      Enjoy your autonomy and freedom!

But look sad and wistful as he goes off to school – it’s the right thing to do.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:38 pm

I did hide my extreme joy at his departure. I’m not THAT bad of a mom.

    22. 09/05/2011 at 9:26 pm

It is nice when summer finally departs and the wee ones and not so wee ones get out of the house and leave us to our devices! Enjoy your new-found freedom!

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:37 pm

I tell you, it leaves me dreaming of year-round school. How great would that be?

    23. 09/05/2011 at 9:25 pm

I felt you doing the happy dance over here! Actually the kids came back on campus the weekend, and although some can be a pain – work isn’t the same without the college kids around. LOL

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:37 pm

I’m sure they add a little “sparkle.”

    24. 09/05/2011 at 9:09 pm

Congratulations! Will you be dancing around the house singing Freedom?

    25. 09/05/2011 at 9:04 pm

Yay for getting your time back! Yes, the nonstop chatter….

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:36 pm

Even though Mr. Jenners is now going to be around all day, at least he is a lot quieter!

    26. 09/05/2011 at 8:37 pm

Woo hoo! Your life can begin againg! lol

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:35 pm

I do feel like I’ve been in a limboworld for the past few months.

    27. 09/05/2011 at 8:31 pm

I feel your pain, Jenners. The day my kids go back to school, the clouds part and I reclaim my sanity. Now don’t get me wrong, my kids are pretty self-sufficient, can make their own lunch, can stay home by themselves, but still. I love my routine.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:35 pm

There is something to feeling (slightly more) in control of your life during the day. No matter how self-sufficient, it just isn’t the same.

    28. 09/05/2011 at 8:10 pm

OOH – those days are over for me…. but I have to admit… I do love my little bit of alone time :)

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:34 pm

Alone time (especially for a reader/blogger) is a very good thing!

    29. 09/05/2011 at 7:55 pm

I share your joy. I had this moment two weeks ago, and it feels great.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:34 pm

It is almost unseemly in a way, isn’t it? How happy we are?

    30. 09/05/2011 at 7:54 pm

Ahahahaha! I remember the time well.

You know, there won’t be that many more summers he wants so much togetherness.

      • 09/06/2011 at 2:33 pm

I’m sure I’ll be begging him for attention in a few years but, for now, it was a little much! Even he said so!!!
