Link up every Thursday at Mama Kat’s

Sometimes when I see the Writer’s Workshop prompts, I know immediately which one I’ll do. This week, I fell for prompt 4: List 7 things your pet thought about today. Want to see who is doing the thinking? This guy!

Romeo ... my faithful fluffball and 9-month old Havanese pup

    • Where is the cheese and how can I get some more?
    • Oh goodie! Laundry! Nice clean stacks of clothes to lay on, socks to steal and baskets to jump in and out of.
    • Who’s that? Who’s that walking outside the house? Alert! Alert! Alert! BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK
    • Where’d She go? She’s out of my sight. Oh no oh no oh no! Must find her! Now! Where is she? Oh … there she is. (Big sigh of relief)
    • What’s that? That thing with feathers? In the tree … on the grass. Alert! Alert! Alert! BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK
    • Sleep on the floor? I don’t think so! I’m made to sleep on couches and beds … preferably with a pillow under my head. None of this floor stuff for me.
    • What’s that? Running in the big rectangle hanging on the wall? A dog? Another dog? In our house? Alert! Alert! Alert! BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK

THIS is how a dog should sleep!

Romeo sounds a lot like my little dog Bentley. Bentley doesn’t bark at birds but other than that they could be twins! Romeo is such a cutie!

      • 05/15/2012 at 9:32 pm

Does Bentley bark at plastic bags? Romeo did that the other day … for 10 minutes!!

        • 05/16/2012 at 12:38 pm

Haha..no Bentley does not bark at plastic bags but he gets scared of the strangest things and growls at things I don’t understand! I think I remember he used to bark more but he’s 7 now and finally mellowing out!

    2. 04/29/2012 at 11:39 pm

Ah, Romeo, Romeo. How sweet your barks.

      • 04/30/2012 at 9:26 pm

You can say that because you can’t hear him!! : )

    3. 04/24/2012 at 12:10 pm

I feel much better knowing that he’s there to protect you for birds, reflections and all other dangers. Whew! :) He’s adorable.

      • 04/29/2012 at 7:13 am

Our house is much safer now, thanks to him. Nothing out of the ordinary goes unbarked upon.

    4. 04/23/2012 at 11:00 pm

      Loved this

Funny- he sounds a bit like my little Isaac! ha! I looove that picture of him on the couch! He should always sleep there just because it is so adorable!

      • 04/24/2012 at 8:46 pm

I know!! I love when we find him sleeping on pillows or (in hot weather) on top of the air conditioning vents with his belly up!

    6. 04/22/2012 at 11:40 pm

Many similarities to a toddler- well except the barking part. :) . Cutest dog ever!!

      • 04/24/2012 at 8:45 pm

I agree … it is like having a furry, non-verbal (except for the barking) toddler … you even get to do potty training again!

    7. 04/22/2012 at 3:41 pm

Ha…..those thoughts sound like the same ones that could have been running through my dogs pea brained heads. :)

      • 04/24/2012 at 8:41 pm

That’s about the size we think Romeo’s brain is too! : )

    8. 04/21/2012 at 10:11 pm

What a little cuddle monster?! Heaven forbid doggies should sleep on the hard floor….chairs couches, beds, that’s what they are made for.
My furry baby also enjoys the window (we call her it tv) but doesn’t alert us to anything. Well almost….the breed she’s mixed with doesn’t bar unless they mean it. So the few times she has barked, she has scared the crap out of us. It’s so deep, it doesn’t fit her.

Hopefully the barking will ease up as he gets older.

      • 04/24/2012 at 8:39 pm

We call the window Romeo’s TV too. Unfortunately, he has been known to bark at anything unusual: a person walking down the street, a bird, a squirrel, a bus, a bag caught in a bush. It can get a to be little much.

    9. 04/20/2012 at 8:56 pm

This. Is. priceless! And so is your cute doggy! :) Ours are spoiled like that – and do the exact same things. Including the Alert! Alert! Alert! BARK! BARK! BARK! even though we keep informing them this is a “No Barking Household”. Apparently they have selective hearing. Except when a leaf falls off a tree – then it’s most likely an intruder.

      • 04/21/2012 at 8:52 pm

The constant alerting drives me nuts! When he does it too much, I have to pull down the blind to “his” window to make it stop. Still, he is so fun and delightful that it more than makes up for noise pollution!

    10. 04/20/2012 at 2:12 pm

I can’t believe how much our puppies are alike. I guess it’s true that the same breed usually have the same characteristics. I just love these pictures! Sammy likes to sleep just like that too.

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:39 pm

I so wish we could have a doggie play date!! I’d love to see him with another Havanese and see how similar they are. : )

    11. 04/20/2012 at 7:33 am

OHG he’s sooooooo cute. I think you captured the life of a dog perfectly.

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:39 pm

Now if I could only get that life for myself, things would be wonderful.

    12. 04/20/2012 at 12:47 am

Do you have squirrels? That might add some more “excitement” to his day. Although, napping on that soft couch sounds pretty good to me – no bills, no errands, someone to feed me and play with me – can I sign up for that gig?

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:38 pm

Squirrels drive him nuts too … but they (the squirrels) seemed to quickly learn to give our house a wide berth! : )

    13. 04/19/2012 at 10:48 pm

I think you know your dog pretty well–I love how he is sleeping with the pillow.

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:37 pm

I’m beginning to think my dog and I have mind-melded actually!

    14. 04/19/2012 at 9:46 pm

Oh my goodness, he is one sweet (spoiled) pup!

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:37 pm

Spoiled is the key word. He is very spoiled.

    15. 04/19/2012 at 9:12 pm

HA! That is exactly what my dogs think as well, especially regarding sleeping on soft couches, laps, blankets, pillows, rugs, beds, towels, or anything else other than the floor. Great job!

      • 04/20/2012 at 8:36 pm

Isn’t it funny how comfort-driven they are? Even in the bathroom, he rearranges the rugs to meet his specifications.

    16. 04/19/2012 at 3:29 pm

I could SO have fun with a prompt like this….from any one of our six dogs’ viewpoints or even a cow’s!!

Yours was fun!! It reminded me of a bunch of “dog haiku” I read once. I ought to dig that out and send it to you – I bet you’d laugh.

Romeo is just as cute as ever.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:18 pm

Oh I bet you could write volumes from the point of view of all your dogs … and cows! And I’d love to see dog haiku if you can find it. Sounds very amusing!

    17. 04/19/2012 at 2:54 pm

awwww!!! Romeo is soooo cute!!! and ‘Where’d She go? She’s out of my sight. Oh no oh no oh no! Must find her! Now!’<-that is so Diego

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:17 pm

So you have a stalker um, I mean “loving companion” too, huh?

    18. 04/19/2012 at 12:31 pm

      He is soo cute!!

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:17 pm

It is what drew us to him. When we saw him with all his brothers and sisters, my son and I both immediately said “That one.” : )

    19. 04/19/2012 at 11:10 am

      Hi Jenners,

I am not a big animal person, but even I fell in love with your Romeo. He is so gorgeous compared to some of the images of Havanese puppies I came across when I was researching the breed, as I didn’t know about that either. He has a real personality and I am sure he is spoiled rotten by his human friends!!

      Yvonne

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:16 pm

Havanese can look so different. We keep him cut shorter so I think that changes the look … when the hair gets real long, they look completely different. And let me tell you, he is spoiled rotten!! : ) Glad he was able to win you over.

    20. 04/19/2012 at 10:22 am

I wouldn’t like to even hazard a guess as to what Romeo is thinking but I can tell you I’m thinking he’s one cute little doggy.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:15 pm

Romeo says “Thank you.” And I agree with you … he is a little cutie.

    21. 04/19/2012 at 8:28 am

He is so cute! My dog likes to sleep with a pillow too. She grabs the cushions off the sofa and then lies on the floor with one under her head. I had no idea that dogs liked pillows. Glad to see mine isn’t alone in her fussiness when sleeping!

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:15 pm

Well, they aren’t stupid so I guess they think if it is good enough for us, it is good enough for them! I love that your dog does the same thing!

    22. 04/19/2012 at 6:45 am

He is so adorable! Just as well or that barking might drive you mad.. or madder? ;-)

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:13 pm

Madder I think! He just can’t seem to figure out birds. And if a dog walks by the house … OH MY. He goes nuts!

    23. 04/19/2012 at 6:30 am

He is just too cute. I just love how he barks at everything that sparks his curiosity. I’m sure your neighbors and even you guys don’t find it as amusing all the time though :) By the way, he sounds a bit stalkerish when he’s trying to find you.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:13 pm

He is a total stalker!! I can’t even go into the bathroom without him following me. I swear that (unless food is available elsewhere in the house) is he always within 5 to 6 feet of me. And we do try to curb his “curiosity.” If he barks too much, he loses his “window privileges.”

    24. 04/18/2012 at 11:42 pm

Aw, he is too cute, and too mischievous!

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:12 pm

The pretty much sums him up!

    25. 04/18/2012 at 10:19 pm

you seem to be able to get right into that cute little mind.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:11 pm

Well, we spend enough time together. I think we may be mind-melding. : )

    26. 04/18/2012 at 10:05 pm

One of my weirdnesses is that I love pictures of animals sleeping in non-typical poses. Just thought I should let you know. :)

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:11 pm

I have conveyed your weirdness to Romeo and he says he will do his best to accomodate you and come up with photo ops for you.

    27. 04/18/2012 at 9:49 pm

Oh hi there, little fella, I was just asking about you. Looking cute, as always.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:10 pm

Romeo says “Hi and BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK.” Don’t be offended … he says that to everyone!

    28. 04/18/2012 at 9:29 pm

Bark Bark Bark, what a lot of thinking. He must be exhausted.

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:10 pm

That would explain all the sleeping on the pillows!

    29. 04/18/2012 at 9:29 pm

Very cute! I love that photo of him sleeping!

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:09 pm

I know! It may be my favorite photo of him. : )

      • 04/19/2012 at 8:10 pm

I know! It may be my favorite photo of him. : )

    30. 04/18/2012 at 8:37 pm

Aw, Romeo’s so cute when he’s sleeping. I’m glad he’s there to keep you alert to all the dangers lurking nearby.
