• Update: Sandy Treated Us Kindly

Despite being directly in the path of Hurricane Sandy, our little neck of the woods escaped relatively unscathed (a few broken branches and a few hours of power loss). I am very grateful for that but a bit perplexed how it could have come ashore less than 60 miles away from us yet barely do anything to our area. Not that I’m complaining! I know many in the area have been really affected (including my sisters-in-law who are still without power).

Thank you for all your concern and e-mails checking on our well-being. We are all safe and sound and grateful for our amazing good luck. I should have posted earlier but the schools were closed for the past two days and I’ve had my hands full with that.)

To all of you who weren’t so lucky, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Glad to hear that all is well and that you were spared the worst effects of the storm!

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:16 pm

        We were extremely lucky.

    2. 11/04/2012 at 8:09 pm

So thankful you are ok but devastated for those who arent.

We had soooooo much rain here and some wind but were lucky…………….

      • 11/08/2012 at 8:59 pm

It was a strange storm in how it affected people and where. I feel so blessed that we were spared.

Such good news for you. Sad that you guys are not feeling well. Did Little One finally get to go trick-or-treating?

      • 11/08/2012 at 9:03 pm

The NJ governor decreed Monday, November 5 to be trick or treating so he was able to go then. He was feeling better but fell asleep almost as soon as we got home. Between being sick and the time change, it wore him out!

    4. 11/04/2012 at 10:17 am

I am relieved – Jersey got hit very badly so I am glad to hear you guys are Ok.

      • 11/04/2012 at 1:33 pm

I know you got hit bad too in the city. Hope you are doing well and got spared like we did.

    5. 11/04/2012 at 7:40 am

We too faired well. Tropical storm lee was far worse to us last year. Glad you are well

      • 11/04/2012 at 1:33 pm

Good to hear. I know our relatives in PA were hit pretty badly — worse than us in fact.

    6. 11/03/2012 at 10:19 pm

So glad to hear you and your family have made it through Sandy ~ for some reason I had you living in the VA area…but regardless, thankful you are safe. The book blogging world would be lost without your humor. Stay safe.

      • 11/04/2012 at 1:31 pm

Awww..you are so sweet. We were incredibly lucky. Our state was hit really hard.

    7. 11/03/2012 at 6:30 pm

I’m glad you’re O.K.! We are unscathed here, in Central Virginia.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:05 pm

Good to hear. It was bizarre how far ranging this storm was and where it hit and where it left untouched.

So glad to hear that you are okay! Thoughts go out to the rest of your friends and family in the area as well!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:08 pm

Thanks for the good wishes. The poor people in Northern New Jersey and the coastal towns need them!

Glad to hear you fared so well. A few downed branchs is acceptable when you think of what could have been.

      • 11/03/2012 at 2:16 pm

I hear you. We were very lucky. It seems that north of us did not fare as well.

    10. 11/02/2012 at 10:40 pm

      Glad you are all ok!

    11. 11/02/2012 at 10:13 pm

It makes you appreciate your blessings

    12. 11/02/2012 at 6:10 pm

I’m very glad to know that you are doing well post Sandy! :)

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:08 pm

It makes you appreciate how much worse it could have been when you see the news.

    13. 11/02/2012 at 10:48 am

I’m grateful to hear you are safe and sound.

    14. 11/02/2012 at 10:24 am

Glad to hear you fared so well. The devestation is just unimaginable. I join you in prayers for tjose who are suffering.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:09 pm

It is hard to believe that we remained untouched when it is devastation just miles away.

    15. 11/01/2012 at 10:03 pm

So glad that you were spared the brunt of it!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:09 pm

I’m not quite sure how that worked but I’m thankful for it. We’re only 60 miles from Atlantic City where it made landfall and yet it was just a bad storm … nothing more.

It really is amazing that you didn’t lose power for any longer than that. You must have underground utilities. I know you’re thankful!!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:10 pm

Our neighborhood is all underground wires and I think that makes a huge difference.

    17. 11/01/2012 at 4:41 pm

OH! I forgot you are a NJ! I’m sorry! I have been worrying about my NJers… really, I have. Good to know you are safe.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:10 pm

No worries. It is hard to remember who all is where!

    18. 11/01/2012 at 4:00 pm

I’m so glad to hear that you and your family are safe!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:10 pm

        Thanks. We were really lucky.

    19. 11/01/2012 at 8:14 am

Great news! I was thinking about you :)

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:11 pm

Well your good thoughts helped us I think.

    20. 11/01/2012 at 8:01 am

It is particularly amazing that you have power! I’m glad.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:11 pm

I know! I was amazed it didn’t last longer. When it went out, we all thought “Well, that is that.” Then it went on a few hours later and we were just amazed.

    21. 11/01/2012 at 7:57 am

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound! I’d been thinking about you. Where I am in MD, we just lost power for awhile, but thankfully no major damage.

    22. 11/01/2012 at 7:11 am

Phew! I’ve been worried about so many people in NY and NJ.

    23. 11/01/2012 at 7:01 am

I am so happy for you. Those poor people by the shore. We did well also (i’m grateful). My niece in Long Island is staying in MA as still no power.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:13 pm

I know! The Jersey shore is just ruined. I don’t know how long it might take for them to get everything back to normal. And those in NYC area and North Jersey are still in such a bind without power and gas and who knows what else.

    24. 11/01/2012 at 6:46 am

Glad to hear you got off lightly!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:14 pm

Me too! I was just amazed that we were spared. I guess we were in just the right spot despite being right in the middle of it all.

    25. 11/01/2012 at 6:44 am

It’s always a relief when you get to the other side of the storm with most everything in place…except your sanity if the kids are out of school for very long ;)

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:14 pm

My son thought it was great … I didn’t share his view.

    26. 11/01/2012 at 5:31 am

Yay! We got treated kindly too!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:18 pm

We were so lucky! Didn’t even need my peanut butter.

    27. 11/01/2012 at 5:05 am

It is great to hear that you and your house are OK. The clips I’ve seen on the news have been terrifying so I was worried about you and the other bloggers I know in the path of Sandy. Stay dry!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:20 pm

I’ve seen the same clips and realized we were incredibly lucky to have been spared. It is going to take some time for a lot of places to get back to normal.

    28. 11/01/2012 at 3:58 am

      Glad to hear you’re safe.

    29. 11/01/2012 at 2:03 am

So glad to know you all are okay!

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:22 pm

It was a huge relief. It was quite scary wondering what might happen.

    30. 11/01/2012 at 1:44 am

Good news! A few hours without power is not too bad — and hopefully the branches weren’t too big. Right now we have something going on that they are calling an “atmospheric river”. Doesn’t that sound awful? I’m all wet! I miss summer. :)

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:23 pm

Atmospheric river does sound awful … and wet … and long. Yuck. We were lucky to have lost a tree in an earlier storm that would have definitely come down in this one.

    31. 11/01/2012 at 1:02 am

Glad y’all were minimally affected. Such a devastating storm.

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:23 pm

I know! Still can’t believe our luck. Just a few miles away, people were not so lucky.

    32. 10/31/2012 at 10:26 pm

I am so glad you came out of it all unscathed! Crazy stuff

      • 11/03/2012 at 9:25 pm

It was crazy … I still can’t believe how lucky we were.

    33. 10/31/2012 at 9:39 pm

You were lucky. We’ve just had vast amounts of rain, but it’s slow, and it only came in a little in my laundry room, and a few roof shingles down, I thought for sure, the willow would have toppled but nooooooooooo, it has to keep growing and making a mess in my yard.

    34. 10/31/2012 at 8:45 pm

I’m thankful you weathered the storm so well.
