• Some Random Stuff Just To Get A Post Up

    by  • 11/08/2012 • Randomosity • 87 Comments

I know it has been awhile since I’ve posted. We’re all feeling much better (thanks for the well wishes). The problem NOW has been that BB has been off from school for the entire week and his constant presence has been cramping my style and blogging. However, I’m going to try and knock off a wee post with some random stuff.

    • To the Makers of Taylor Pork Roll: If a serving size is 3 slices, then don’t you think you should package your product with 9 slices instead of 8???? I can’t tell you how annoying this is. Either I’m forced to buy another pack (and face the same conundrum) or eat a 2 slice sandwich. Actually, now I see the genius of your evil plan!

Is pork roll a regional thing or do you have it where you live?

    • Today I saw a car that had one of those “family” decals but it had only one figure .That was kind of sad.

    This cracked me up!

How hilarious and tacky is this?

    • Wreck-It Ralph was really fun. I’d definitely recommend it. Of course, BB liked the scene featuring the double-entendre use of “duty” the best.

A delight! Two thumbs up! I wish I could play Sugar Rush.

    • I bought my first hot glue gun and am doing crafts. Those of you who remember my past efforts (see below) will be pleased to know that I’m being supervised by an experienced crafter and things are working out loverly. I will post photos of the finished crafts when they are done. Trust me … if I can do this stuff, anyone can.

    Look at the workmanship!!

    • I was eligible for an upgrade on my phone and got an iPhone 5 and have embarked on a love affair with Siri. It is driving Mr. Jenners nuts, but I won’t give her up. (I am working on not thanking her each time though.)

Perhaps Siri will give up on me before I give up on her though… click on cartoon for source

Hilarious…you’ve made me laugh out loud as always. My office mates must be wondering what is so funny…I suppose I should get back to work now! :)

      • 12/05/2012 at 3:10 pm

Get back to work before you get in trouble. (Though I’m thrilled to make your work day a little brighter.)

Hi Jenners, I haven’t checked in for a while. Glad to hear Sandy spared you and that you are feeling better.

Just thought I’d mention a book I just read that I liked: “Townie” by Andre Dubus III. It sort of reminded me of “The Glass Castle” which I know you read. Dubus also lived in terrible conditions with clueless parents and was beaten up by neighborhood thugs so often as a kid, that he finally started to work out, first to be able to defend himself, but later he was actually enjoying beating people. When he started to write, he had an outlet that finally weaned him from the violence. (He Wrote House of Smoke and Fog, among other books.) I listened to the audio version of “Townie,” read by the author.

      • 11/28/2012 at 8:46 pm

Thanks for the recommendation. I did read The House of Sand and Fog, and I was looking at this at one point. I’ll put it on my wish list.

Thinking of taking the kids to Wreck-It Ralph on Friday! I’m excited to see it now!!

      • 11/24/2012 at 8:43 pm

I hope you went and enjoyed it as much as we did. I think Mr. Jenners would even like it.

          11/25/2012 at 12:24 pm

We did and we did!! I was even cracking up at the duty comments!! :)

          • 11/27/2012 at 8:15 pm

So glad!!! It was a great little flick — even the duty stuff! : )
How much did you love the candy racing game? I wish I could play that game!!

    4. 11/20/2012 at 11:12 pm

So, I’m not familiar with pork roll. I think they serve ham roll every year at the mother-daughter banquet at my grandma’s church. Mmmm.
Those stick figure pics are hilarious. I admit that they mostly annoy me, but if I saw a few like those I would be on board.
I tried a glue gun years and years ago with little success. I would try agin but having a glue gun in the same house as a two year old could only end in disaster.

      • 11/24/2012 at 8:45 pm

I’m thinking the hot glue gun with an 8-year-old isn’t a great idea either! After all, I’m already injuring myself.
And pork roll is DELICIOUS but apparently a regional thing.

    5. 11/18/2012 at 3:50 pm

Great update. The car decals provided a much needed laugh :)

    6. 11/15/2012 at 2:47 pm

Siri truly is so wonderfully fun and my life savor! I use her to set reminders for things all of the time.
And can’t wait to see what crafts you made while under supervision :)

      • 11/16/2012 at 9:40 pm

I know! I love telling Siri to remind me about stuff. So much quicker than trying to type it in. And one more project to go and I’m ready to reveal my new supervised crafting!

      11/14/2012 at 9:28 am

Have never seen that pork roll. Not sure I’m missing it. *snicker*

Anxious to see your new craft project. If you want a different looking clay pot, it’s really easy to get with acrylic paint.

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:15 pm

I think painting is more my style than gluing ribbon. Of course, that was before I discovered the wonders of a hot glue gun!

    8. 11/13/2012 at 8:48 pm

Never heard of pork roll. Dont know if I want to.

My kids loved the “duty” references in Wreck it Ralph too!

      Whats your number? Lets text.

      Nice pot…..LOL

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:16 pm

Glad to hear your kids are as mature as mine!! I had to listen to those “duty” jokes ALL DAY LONG! And you want to hear of pork roll. Despite the name it is DELICIOUS!

    9. 11/12/2012 at 3:21 pm

I totally remember your previous crafting efforts. I remember them fondly. My mom and I were literally cracking up. :)

I’m glad to hear Wreck it Ralph was good. I do want to see that!

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:17 pm

You will be most impressed with my progress. A hot glue gun makes all the difference!

    10. 11/12/2012 at 2:10 pm

I hope you’re enjoying your crafts! I haven’t used a hot glue gun for years… since I was in school!

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:17 pm

I just discovered them!! SO MUCH EASIER! (Though I have burned my thumb already. They don’t lie … that glue IS hot.)

    11. 11/12/2012 at 10:17 am

you are seriously funny, young lady!

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:18 pm

I don’t know what is better — that you called me young or you called me funny!

    12. 11/12/2012 at 10:02 am

Thanks for the chuckle this morning. :-) I too am unfamiliar with pork roll. My husband took the kids to Wreck-It Ralph while I was out with friends and I find myself just a little bit disappointed by that.

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:18 pm

Boo hiss!!! I hate when I miss promising kid’s movies. My son saw Hotel Transylvania with our neighbors and I was pretty disappointed that I missed it as he doesn’t want to go again.

    13. 11/12/2012 at 1:25 am

Position open – now that’s advertising.

      • 11/14/2012 at 8:18 pm

        Direct and to the point!

    14. 11/11/2012 at 3:29 pm

I can’t figure out why I seem to be the only one who hasn’t fallen under the spell of Siri. I’ve used her a few times, but it was all business.

How fun with this crafting bug you have!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:12 pm

I’ve discovered that the key to crafting was to get a hot glue gun! Makes all the difference in the world! I’m unstoppable now!

    15. 11/10/2012 at 11:16 pm

Haha, those family sticker things are funny!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:12 pm

Even funnier is that we saw the chainsaw one on a car at my son’s soccer game this afternoon.

    16. 11/10/2012 at 9:47 pm

I have a 4S but my Siri don’t know squat. She s ONLY annoying to me and I can often be found yelling at her to GO AWAY and leave me alone shut up!!!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:13 pm

Most of the folks I know who have access to Siri used her a few times in the beginning and then quit. I, however, love her to pieces because I have a horrible time typing on that tiny little keypad!

      • 11/15/2012 at 10:38 pm

Siri is a total bitch. She doesn’t understand a word I say. Except when I ask her how she is. She says fine, but doesn’t ask how I am! It’s all about her.

        • 11/16/2012 at 9:37 pm

She is self-centered and a bit of a conversational dead-end.

    17. 11/10/2012 at 2:49 pm

Glad you’re feeling better. My son and daughter and law have a stick figure family on their car… zombies!

Haven’t seen the movie but would like to. I am so not crafty.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:14 pm

I saw the zombie ones. Love them! And there were little Lego head ones that I would consider using.

    18. 11/10/2012 at 12:43 pm

      Those car stickers are hilarious!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:14 pm

Can you imagine if the “position open” one actually netted that guy a wife?

    19. 11/10/2012 at 8:39 am

Looking forward to hearing more on your craftwork attempts.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:15 pm

For once, I’m not embarrassed to show what I’m doing! The key was to get a hot glue gun!

    20. 11/09/2012 at 6:15 pm

Hi Jenners, glad to hear you are feeling better. Fun post :)
You know how we have taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwiches in NJ? Well one of my good friends moved down South (Virginia), and they don’t have taylor ham over there! *gasp* So whenever she and her family come to visit, they make sure to stop at the bagel shop in the mornings for taylor ham egg n cheese on rolls, because it’s one of the foods they crave :)

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:15 pm

It is a regional thing … and I think I would miss it if I moved away. My dad always made me get it when he came to visit from out West.

    21. 11/09/2012 at 4:18 pm

I’m not familiar with the pork roll, either, but hey…you can’t go wrong with pork! (my favorite meat)

Love the Siri comic. Siri sometimes has a little trouble with my southern accent, but works pretty well for the most part.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:16 pm

It tastes really good but sounds awful. And they should sell regional dialect Siris!!! Wouldn’t that be something!

    22. 11/09/2012 at 4:12 pm

That stick figure thing is just hilarious. I want the one with the chainsaw. I have an iPhone 3 right now and am up for an upgrade this month. I’ve been debating getting the 4 or the 5 (4 is about $100 cheaper).

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:17 pm

The 5 is significantly faster, has a bigger screen, has a really cool Panaroma feature in the photo section. But it has the new connector so a lot of your accessories might not work. Depending on how you feel about these features, it should help you decide whether the extra $100 is worth it or not.

    23. 11/09/2012 at 2:10 pm

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a clever family decal…so far I haven’t found one that is both representative of my family and suitably hilarious. Let me know if you find any…

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:18 pm

There are zombie ones that are pretty neat. And I saw some Lego head ones that I liked.

    24. 11/09/2012 at 1:50 pm

I hate those stick figure families. So dumb. The chainsaw is hilarious.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:18 pm

Sounds like you would definitely want the chainsaw one then! (Or be the one wielding the chain saw.)

    25. 11/09/2012 at 11:59 am

Siri… hilarious. Your “decorative” flower pot… a keeper. Wreck-It Ralph… I’ll have to get rid of San Geraldo first. Family decals… I’ve seen the second one and love it; the first one is funny but gives me the creeps. I have never in my life seen or heard of Taylor Pork Rolls, but I agree with you about the packaging; JERKS!

Oh, how I’ve missed my Jenners fix!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:20 pm

Thank you for agreeing with my disdain for the Taylor pork roll people. As an original New Yorker, I thought you’d be familiar with it. Maybe it doesn’t go that far north!

    26. 11/09/2012 at 11:22 am

Taylor Pork roll is a regional thing…a south Jersey, Philly thing. I believe it was originally made in Trenton.
AS to your slice issues…well, it you were a serious TPR eater, you would buy it unsliced and cut it yourself.
Taylor is just pointing out you are not a purist with the 8 slices.

there used to be a Taylor Pork Roll shore on the Boardwalk in AC when I was a kid where they grilled it over an open fire..

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:21 pm

Oh I’ve done the roll but can’t cut equal pieces to save my life and I like them thinner rather than fatter and I always end up with too fat of a slice. I wonder how far it goes. I think it is shame that it isn’t further around as it soooooooo good!!

      11/09/2012 at 11:04 am

No Pork Roll in So Cal. In the land of good looks due to plastic, I think people would internally combust if they ate pork roll.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:21 pm

I suspect you might be right!

    28. 11/09/2012 at 10:59 am

I’m glad you’re feeling better although I’ve missed when you were sick with not getting around to blogs like I’d like to. Anyhow the important thing is you’re doing better.

I have never heard of pork roll here in Canada love the Siri joke. I have a 4s phone and updated but haven’t really used it much.

I can’t wait to see your crafts. I’ve just been knitting myself up some winter stuff to wear as we got dumped on with a whole ton of snow.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:23 pm

Ugh … snow already. (Though we did have a little bit last week, which is very rare for us.) I have a feeling it is going to be a cold winter!! ACK!

    29. 11/09/2012 at 8:33 am

No pork roll in central Ohio, either. But we have Spam (spam, spam, spam…)

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:24 pm

You can keep your Spam (although we have it too). At least Pork Roll is GOOD! : )

    30. 11/09/2012 at 8:15 am

Yeah, um…..I have no idea what a pork roll is….maybe you should post pictures of the actual product for us? We just saw that chainsaw weilding stick figure guy and Rainman was highly offended and thought it set a horrible, violent example for the children. I thought it was really funny. I have not seen the “position open” one around these parts thought and that one is really funny! I will have to tell you about my imaginary boyfriend (according to Rainman) a Therapro hook….

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:25 pm

Ha! I’m a bad influence. (Well, not me exactly but I’m perpetuating it.)> Glad you enjoyed it though! HAHA! And the pork roll just looks like round slices of (almost) ham. It is really tasty!

    31. 11/09/2012 at 7:13 am

It’s true. I’ve never heard of a pork roll either. Can you please take a picture of this elusive luncheon meat?!

I have four cat pics on my car….self-proclaimed and proud cat lady.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:25 pm

I might have to photograph the pork roll — although it won’t look as good as it actually tastes. Turns out it is regional thing. And good for you for owning your cat lady status! ; )

    32. 11/09/2012 at 7:09 am

I’m glad you are feeling better. Those stick family stickers are too funny. My grandkids loved that movie and I can’t wait to see what you’ve been crafting.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:26 pm

For the first time, I’m not embarrassed to show my craft stuff!!

    33. 11/09/2012 at 6:49 am

Hahaha, love the Siri bit. Had to repost on FB :)

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:26 pm

        Wasn’t that the funniest?

    34. 11/09/2012 at 6:37 am

I love the stick figure with the husband or wife missing :p
I gave up on Siri a long time ago…my Southern accent is obviously so pronounced that she doesn’t understand a word I say. I find this insulting ;)
Glad ya’ll are all better :)

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:27 pm

Several people mentioned that Siri doesn’t understand the Southern accent that well. Perhaps Apple needs to make a regional dialect Siri!

    35. 11/09/2012 at 2:19 am

Is pork roll like bologna? I’ve never heard of it either. Is that the current packaging or the package from 1973? ;)

And one day I will get my iPhone 5. I really need one. Mr. Little Sticky Fingers has made my home button on my iPhone 4 very unreliable. There’s nothing like getting stuck in an app and wondering if now you just have a very expensive weather station or calculator.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:28 pm

It is kind of like bologna … but with more taste. (And salt.) And that packaging is dated, isn’t it? I think it hasn’t changed since I was a kid.

    36. 11/09/2012 at 12:54 am

Why’s the stick figure family of one so sad? I suspect the person was bragging.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:28 pm

You do make a good point.

        • 11/13/2012 at 12:04 am

Today I saw a one-person family stick figure, and underneath was the word “WHATEVER.” It made me smile.

    37. 11/09/2012 at 12:50 am

I’m glad you are well, and I don’t know what pork roll is, but it doesn’t really sound yummy.
      Enjoy the new iphone….
I detest those stick figure families..ick.

      Random can be good!!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:35 pm

Pork roll is really yummy. It doesn’t look like it will be but it is!

    38. 11/08/2012 at 11:56 pm

First, glad you are doing better and everyone is feeling better and hand a chance to trick-or-treat. Did you Little One bring home enough chocolate?

Secondly, the stick figure photos are pretty funny.

Lastly, I just entered the world of having a smart phone and texting. I don’t have Suri yet and am leaning at not adding that to my phone. But enjoy your friend. Do you watch Big Bang Theory? There was a pretty funny episode regarding Suri on there. If you saw it, you’d know what I mean.

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:36 pm

Oh yes .. I saw that Siri Big Bang Theory episode! That was funny. Of course, I didn’t fully “get” it at the time. : )
And BB got TONS of chocolate at Halloween … more than usual. It was so messed up that I think people were just giving tons of it out to get rid of it.

    39. 11/08/2012 at 11:35 pm

What is pork roll??! It sounds disturbing. Have definitely never seen it in AZ.

Also: a sticker family of only one person! How sad. :(

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:37 pm

I’m sure it sounds kind of disturbing but it is actually quite good. It is kind of like bacon/ham/bologna all together. Quite tasty!

    40. 11/08/2012 at 9:54 pm

Jenners, it’s good to see that your sense of humor is still as commanding as ever. Each of your random bits cracked me up bigtime!

      • 11/11/2012 at 9:38 pm

Good to hear! Sometimes I think I don’t have too much to say so maybe I shouldn’t say anything. But if I thought like that, I might never post!
